PASTOR'S CORNER

Judo

"the kind of verse that doesn't try to force people to their knees (seeing as it sees to people's being thrown by forces of their own)."

by Dan Brown

The first thing you learn in judo is how to land so that you don't hurt yourself. The journey to becoming a black belt begins with mastering a skill that is only needed when you lose.

The disciples stood by the Sea of Galilee tossing their nets - for they were fishermen. Jesus drew near to them and said, "Follow me." Immediately they put down their nets and left everything behind to follow him.

Being tossed around by the Gospel,

In Christ,

George

PRESBYTERY MEETING

February 8

Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church

We are hosting the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta on February 8th!  It is a privilege to be able to serve the Presbytery and to show our thanks for the churches that came together and renovated the chapel, painted the bathrooms, helped in the garden, and continue to support us in ministry!  It is important that everybody makes a commitment to be a part of this day. We will have sign-up sheets in the back of the church for volunteers.  Let's make this first meeting the best meeting of 2014!

In Christ,

George

CHRISTMAS PARTY - A SUCCESS

The gifting party on Christmas Eve at the Golden Living Nursing Center was such a very happy time for the people there. Your gifts made the room full of joyful sounds as each person opened the packages

and spoke to others near them. Beverly (resident) was there, and full of smiles, and personally thanked us. The week before, she had to go to the hospital and cried because she knew she would miss this happy day, so Karen (staff person) who knew there was a present with her name on it, quickly gave it to her and made her leaving much easier. Karen and staff, along with Melissa and Carol from MDPC, then took some gifts to those who remained in their rooms. It was a beautiful time to see Gordon sort through his large bag of good things, but oh did he seem amazed at a Bigfoot DVD! He could not get over the idea that someone knew he wanted that, and the family member there was so surprised because she learned something new about Dad. Our church did an amazing job of gathering 32 gifts of items the residents could use and enjoy. The cash donations not used for the party will be used to purchase personal clothing when needed during the year.

MDPC is a beautiful, caring, giving group of people!!!
