PASTOR'S CORNER

Feeding the Five Thousand      Matthew 14:13-21

13 Now when Jesus heard this (about the execution of John the Baptist), he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.

14 When Jesus went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick.

15 When it was evening, the disciples came to Jesus and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves."

16 Jesus said to them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat."

With so many people in need - hungering to know God, hungering for a deep sense of connection, hungering for more meaning in their lives, and just plain hungry - it is easy to see how the disciples lost sight of the new things that God was doing. Like the disciples before us, we too wonder how the transformation and growth we hope for will happen. Jesus had a simple answer to all of their fears, anxiety, and uncertainty, "The people need not go away; you give them something to eat." What do you think God's Word for the disciples is saying to us today? Where is God calling you to step out in faith?

Please keep these questions in mind as you and your family prayerfully consider your commitment to growing the ministry of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and then respond in boldness of faith!

In the powerful name of Jesus Christ,

George
