PASTOR'S  CORNER

This summer we will be partnering with International Rescue Committee - a refugee resettlement organization - as a part of their Youth Futures Summer Program. They are looking for volunteers to help chaperon field trips to World of Coca-cola, Fernbank, the High Museum, the Aquarium, etc. This is a great way to meet people in our community, get a free trip to area attractions, and show what Christian hospitality is all about.

That said, the IRC is very conscientious about screening all potential volunteers before they come into contact with clients (especially youth). Part of that process is that all potential volunteers must attend an orientation session and go through a background check process.

The orientation session is on May 18th. Contact Jessica Seales as soon as possible to begin the process. Her email address is Jessica.Seales@rescue.org or 678/636-8928.

I met with Justin and JD of IRC today to tour the campus and talk about the program. I found out that JD is a member of N. Decatur Presbyterian and he will be with us on June 8th as we welcome several congregations for our "To Clarkston with Love" service day. God is at work laying the foundations for valuable mission and ministry. Let us respond faithfully as a congregation to God's call.

In Christ

George

IRC Orientation Details

Saturday, May 18th from 11 am - 1 pm. Orientations are held at 2305 Parklake Dr., Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30345. There's no sign-up required, you can simply show up to the orientation.

You can see our available volunteer opportunities online at http://www.rescue.org/Atlanta.

To protect our clients, we require background checks for all our volunteers. We ask for a $20 donation to help us cover the associated costs. Currently, 90% of our funding goes directly to our clients, and your help to cover this cost allows us to continue providing the best service possible. You can submit the background check fee at the orientation, through the mail, or bring it in person to our office.

Please contact Pastor George Tatro at 404.292.8212 if you would like to receive a $20 scholarship for the background check.

Bible Presentation

Our sister church, Eastminster Presbyterian, will be hosting Michael Morgan - curator of one of the largest private collections of Bibles in the United States of America. He will be focusing on the unique and often amusing independent and private translations of the Bible between 1611 and the present day.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the history of the Bible and to share and grow our bonds with Eastminster. So bring your favorite brunch item to share and join us as Michael shares his collection of rare and limited edition Bibles throughout the ages.
