PASTOR'S  CORNER

Wednesday, February 13th, is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent. With Christians all over the world, we will gather for solemn and sacred worship and for the imposition of ashes. This service of confession and commitment is an appropriate way for us to begin the Lenten journey that leads to the joy of Easter. We are reminded of our sinfulness and mortality, and we are also offered the assurance of God's forgiveness and the opportunity for a new beginning.

Sunday's sermon spoke to the need of prayer in our journey of faith. Lent is the time we set apart to reflect and wrestle with our "holy discomfort" with the way things are, both in our lives and in the world, and how we can join in the amazing transformation God intends for the world by transforming our lives into a true reflection of the light of Christ.

If you have never been to an Ash Wednesday worship service, make plans to attend one of the worship services on February 13th. We will gather at noon and again at 6pm in the sanctuary. Rev. Gad Mpoyo of Shalom, our sponsored New Church Development, will lead worship and music at the noon service and I will lead the 6:00 pm service.

Grace and Peace
George
