PASTOR'S  CORNER

Apparently another "End of the World" date is upon us and it will be December 21, 2012. Unlike the "End of the World" date that passed last year, this one is based on the sound science of the Mayan Calendar. Knowing when things will be at an end is nothing new. In this weeks Gospel reading from Mark, Peter, James, John, and Andrew want to know too, so they asked Jesus, "Tell us when will this be?" Jesus gives a long list of things that will come to pass but in the end he tells them that nobody can know the hour when the end will come.

2 Peter beginning at 3:8 says, "Dear friends, don't let this one thing escape you: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance."

The "End of the World" question is not nearly as important as God's desire for us all to come into repentance and to accept God's reign in our lives. But it isn't just about us! God's plan for restoration is for all of humanity! God doesn't want any of us to be lost! Perhaps the real question we should be asking is "Who is in need of the good news of the Gospel and how can I share it with them?"

 In Anticipation,

George

Thank you all for celebrating my second year of ministry here at MDPC so wonderfully! Special thanks to everyone who helped plan and execute the celebration! I have heard that I am getting much better as a preacher and I have told you that I think you all are getting much better at listening, isn't it wonderful how God is at work in our lives! I know that the years to come will continue to bless us as we grow together in faith and commitment to God's call on our lives.

Peace always,

George

AN ARTFUL EXPERIENCE OF ADVENT

Come and explore a fresh perspective for yourself during this Advent season using art materials in an intuitive way. Soul Journers Studio is offering a four week group workshop to explore the four themes of advent. This will begin November 25 and go through December 16. The actual time will be determined by the group. The workshop will meet at the Soul Journers' Studio in the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. Paint, clay, collage, and journaling will be used to discover what Peace, Hope, Love, Joy will mean to each of us this season. We will be loosely using the book, Christmas Gifts That Don't Break by James W. Moore and Praying in Color by Sybil MacBeth. It is not necessary to purchase these books to participate, nor do you need prior art training. To have a space, please call Sandra Tate at 404 455 8530.
