PASTOR'S  CORNER

Our Tuesday Bible study covered Acts 4-6. Stories of Peter and John being brought before the authorities - chief priests, the Sanhedrin, Sadducees, and Pharisees - and how these authorities marveled at the wisdom of the apostles. Stories of miraculous healings taking place through the apostles in Jesus name were upsetting the authorities. Who did these apostles think they were healing in Jesus' name? How come they wouldn't stop talking about Jesus even under threat of torture or imprisonment?

One thing stuck out like a sore thumb: Acts 4:32-5:10

Right in the middle of these stories of courage and healings by the apostles we learn that the believers responded by sharing their wealth with the apostles for distribution to those in need. All of the believers were of one heart and mind.

It seems odd to me that Aninais and Sapphira would be stricken dead for holding back in their giving. Wouldn't an encouraging word from Peter and a change of heart been much more appropriate?

Stewardship and generosity is a part of our spiritual journey and it doesn't make sense that their journey would be cut short by Divine judgment. What do you make of this?

ALL SAINTS' DAYall saints day

We will celebrate All Saints on November 4th.

We will give thanks "for all the saints who from their labors rest." All Saints Day recognizes those named saints throughout history and the recently departed saints whom we have known and loved.

During the service we will read the names of the dearly departed, light a candle to symbolize their enduring love that still burns within the church, and pause to give thanks to God for their gifts among us.
We didn't build the sanctuary, or start the Holiday Box ministry, or install the organ, or pay for the pews. It is the love of the saints who came before us, their enduring faithfulness that lives on in the church, that enables us to worship each Sunday and to reach out to the community in ministry.

Please fill out the form in memory of the saints who have inspired you in faith and life. For all the saints, the quick and the dead, thanks be to God.

In Christ,
George

If there is someone you would like to commemorate, please provide that information to us. There will be an insert in your bulletin on Sunday.

You may use the online form to submit their names.

The Stewards of Children program is the only nationally available program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors. This revolutionary program is for any responsible adult who cares about the welfare of children. It is also appropriate for youth-serving organizations (sports leagues, day care centers, after school programs, children's clubs, church groups and more).

We request all members who work in the nursery or with the youth to attend this program.  It is $15 per person.  Please call the church office 404-292-8212 by Friday morning to make your reservation. We will need to know the number of those attending so we can make arrangements for a light lunch.
