Stress Out! for cats, dogs & their people
The animal-human bond is a most beautiful lifelong relationship. Cats and dogs are our special companions giving an unparalleled kind of love. Yet, some of the ways we treat them adds to their stress, and to our own. In this book, best-selling author, Sumner M. Davenport brings together a collection of real life stories from animal lovers and advocates who have learned something about themselves through the cats and dogs in their care. They have also learned how to better care for their animal companions which can then reduce the stress for both. In these personal stories you might read something that helps you to better understand your animal companion's stress and their needs; or find a way to prevent accidents, injury and some illnesses.

Stress is a constant in our lives, such a constant that we actually don't realize we are under stress, we think it's "just part of life."

Proceeds from this special edition are shared with Pets of the Homeless.  Thank you Sumner Davenport!

People do not ask to live on the streets. Life has usually handed individuals a tough deck of cards. Many circumstances can vary depending on one's story. It's not uncommon for the leading factors of homelessness to be: job loss, mental disorder, addiction, disabilities, the elderly, teenagers, abused spouses and veterans. But who are we to judge?

Elvis

Pets of the Homeless received a call from Animal Care Hospital in
Apple Valley California for a homeless man that had brought in his dog, Elvis, a two year old German Shepherd mix. Elvis had severe head injury wounds from either some sort of wildlife or a dog attack. This homeless man walked over 10 miles with Elvis in a wagon to get him to the vet. When he arrived, the wagon only had 3 wheels. This happened 4 days prior, and infection had set in badly.
Elvis needed to have the wounds flushed out and was hospitalized for a week for treatment of the severe infections. He also needed surgery for the laceration repair and drains for the infections. While Elvis was in surgery he was neutered at no charge.

Pets of the Homeless contributed the maximum benefit allowable which included hospitalization/intensive care, iv fluids, anesthesia, wound treatment, antibiotic injections, and vaccinations. This bill would have been well over $2,000 and Animal Care Hospital contributed the remaining services.
We received an email from Animal Care Hospital with these photos of Elvis along with a note, "Elvis spent a week with us and is feeling and looking much better. He is a sweet boy and we were happy to return him to his owner today."
