In the News....Dog Talk

Genevieve Frederick, Founder of Pets of the Homeless was interviewed live by the Radio Pet Lady, Dog Talk show on the HuffPost.  Genevieve shared how she started Pets of the Homeless in  2006, became a non-profit in 2008 and since has over 330 pet food collection sites, 430 distribution sites, and has treated over 12,000 pets.  Pets of the Homeless is the only national organization focused completely on feeding and providing emergency veterinary care to pets of the homeless.  81% of every dollar donated goes to Pets of the Homeless programs.  Listen now!

Spay and Neuter 20 Pets of the Homeless

Pets of the Homeless has launched a pilot program to spay and neuter pets owned by the homeless.    This will help keep unwanted puppies and kittens out of animal shelters, or worse, abandoned.
This project will enhance the health of pets that are owned by the homeless. Our goal is that the Spay & Neuter program will become a permanent program as it enhances our mission, augments our other programs and continues to serve the welfare of pets of the homeless. Health Benefits of Companion Animals

Scientific studies over the past 25 years have shown that people derive many health benefits from relationships with their animal companions.  Animals have demonstrated to improve cardiovascular health, reduce stress, and decrease loneliness and depression.  Giving up beloved friends have proven to have a detrimental, not beneficial effect on their overall health.  Health professionals encourage people to maintain bonds with their pets, even when there is a serious illness or other challenge. Petra

Petra was vomiting and had bloody diarrhea and her homeless owner who lives in her car called Pets of the Homeless for help.

A note from Petra's owner:  "With our baby in the emergency, waiting for the test results, the fear of losing her brought us both to tears. They took our baby from my arms and didn't bring her back for almost an hour.  With great news and results, the test was a negative.  She "should" be good soon, but still very ill. Doctor said, two weeks of complete bed rest: no running, no playing, no toys. But this morning she can barely use the... restroom and cried to go back to sleep. Our poor, little baby. We pray her a strong recovery.  We love you Petra, we almost lost you. Who would've known 4 lbs can fill your heart. Thank you Feeding Pets Of The Homeless for your warm, caring generosity and amazing, selfless help and VCA Los Alamitos for caring for our baby Petra."
