Meet our New Principal
Mitzi Lizarraga

"Mentors are huge factors in my life.  Two [are] the founders of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts[,] Peggy Cooper Cafritz and the late Michael Malone.  I benefitted from their vision which was to ensure that talented young people in DC had the opportunity to receive quality arts training in the arts.  I was inspired by their commitment to young urban youth.  I too am dedicated to being a part of young people's lives to guide them toward their aspirations in the arts but more importantly in making a difference in the world with the actions of justice and equity.  The arts are all about peace and global connections."

PSA "Beautiful"

Beautiful

Aidan's assignment at USC to create a PSA started out as just that: an assignment. However, throughout the process of filming these "beautiful" girls (all LACHSA alumnea and current students) it ended up being so much more. The dialogue you hear are the real answers the girls gave to scripted questions. What a wonderful message!

Aidan is currently working on her BA from USC's School of Cinematic Arts for Film & Television Production.

"It was not an easy decision to step away from teaching. It has been the most rewarding 13 years of my life. I cannot tell you how much the experience has taught me about people, music, the industry, and how a spark of creativity can explode just because you gave students the tools of expression."

"However my decision to leave is because I have a higher calling. Almost 3 years ago when my wife was diagnosed with a rare disease called scleroderma, we were devastated. [As] time progressed [and the] disease started to take a bigger toll on my wife and family, I felt that I needed to pursue this crisis head on." Emmanuel will be "dedicating more time with the Scleroderma Foundation, an organization that has helped me and my wife through this situation by giving support, medical access, getting the best doctors, and learning to create a bigger awareness of [this] disease."

Emmanuel and Kristine have two beautiful children: Aaron (9) and Elle (6)
