Welcome to ECIC News! Our 20th Anniversary Celebration & Fundraiser on Nov. 14th was a huge success! We would like to congratulate our 20 luminaries (pictured above), and thank everyone for their donations and support!
Quarterly Meeting Highlights
January 15, 2014
  • ECIC Updates: Director, Dr. Debra Houry, and Associate Directors would like to thank all who participated in our online silent auction and attended our 20th Anniversary Celebration & Fundraiser. We were able to raise funds for the Center, engage in fellowship with friends, and honor luminaries in injury and violence prevention. This was also a great launch into our new fundraising campaign.
  • Legislative Update: Carol Ball, Program Consultant at the Georgia Department of Public Health, gave the legislative update. She discussed injury bills that have carried over from last year, as well as new injury-related legislation. Visit the Georgia General Assembly website for detailed information.
  • Traffic Safety Presentation: Dr. Carol Cotton, the Principal Investigator for the Traffic Safety Research and Evaluation Group (TSREG) at UGA, gave an overview of their fantastic work. TSREG partners with other agencies around the state to reduce morbidity and mortality related to traffic injuries. The group consists of 4-7 staff members, and provides technical assistance and evaluations to federal and state agencies. TSREG's main partner is Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), and has been active for approximately 10 years.

Current TSREG Projects:

School Bus Survey - GOHS implemented the "Stop Means Stop" campaign in 2013. TSREG has been surveying adults about the school bus laws.
Rockdale DUI Court Evaluation - assessing effectiveness of Rockdale County DUI Court on reducing recidivism in program graduates.
Distracted Pedestrians - using observational surveys to record multiple variables at intersections with high pedestrian injuries.
Distracted Driving Campaign - assisting GOHS with program design and evaluation.
