SHAPING THE FUTURE. TOGETHER.

Welcome. CLI is happy to reintroduce The Path -- our monthly newsletter with CLI updates and the latest on diversity and inclusiveness news in the legal profession. October is a great time to assess your D/I initiatives, evaluate your strategic plan and make adjustments for the upcoming year. To help you with that, under D&I Tips, play the SAMBAS game to learn if you have the necessary elements for an effective diversity committee.

We want to give special recognition to National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) and National Disability Employment Awareness Month  (October). You may also want to read the newest biography about Justice Sotomayor, Breaking In: The Rise of Sonia Sotomayor and the Politics of Justice.

D&I Tip

Diversity Committees - Win with SAMBAS

A diverse and inclusive workplace typically doesn't just "happen." Among other things, you need a strategic plan, buy-in/support from leadership and a point person and/or committee to lead the charge.  Today's tip will help you create and maintain an effective diversity committee - the SAMBAS grid.

The SAMBAS grid contains necessary elements for a productive diversity committee. As you evaluate your committee, think of SAMBAS and address any missing "squares."  Like BINGO, you "win" when all squares are covered. To learn more about effective diversity committees, read pages 72-86 of CLI's Beyond Diversity: Inclusiveness in the Legal Workplace.
