Harrison Industries celebrated its 80th anniversary at the Ventura Chamber of Commerce's mixer on Sept. 27. The occasion also served as the official ground-breaker for the E.J. Harrison Family Youth Center - the future home of the Saticoy branch of the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura.
The center, which is scheduled to open next summer, will serve Saticoy's boys and girls for generations to come. In addition to its initial $400,000 contribution toward the center's construction, Harrison Industries, which collects trash, recyclables and yard waste for over 90,000 residential and commercial customers in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, donated all proceeds from the mixer to the B&GC of Ventura.
About 200 Chamber members, community leaders, government officials and Saticoy residents attended the event. The list of speakers was a "who's who" of local government officials, including Congressman Elton Gallegly, Ventura County Supervisor Steve Bennett, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean and Ventura Mayor Mike Tracy.

Learn About California Budget Challenges Relating to Education in Focus on Education
The Ventura County Office of Education has released the latest edition of Focus on Education with an emphasis on the California budget crisis. The issue includes stories on budget problems and how they effect California public school K-12 education, as well as how Ventura County school districts are coping with the monetary shortfalls.
VCOE also provides a non-partisan, position-neutral look at two upcoming state proposition measures specifically addressing public education funding for the Nov. 6 election, Propositions 30 and 38, and their potential impact on local schools.
Focus on Education is produced by Whisenhunt Communications three times a year and is distributed through the general circulation of the Ventura County Star. It's available to read here: http://www.vcoe.org/Portals/VcssoPortals/Main/publications/foe-20121003.pdf.
