Historical Tidbit:

Sodom Woods

I grew up knowing a mile long section of Elm Street
as "Sodom Woods."
It started at the east end of the street near Furnace Street and
ran west, toward Pond Street.  Back in the early 1900's, one had
to walk through there whenever they wished to make connections
with the railroad or trolley cars.

My grandfather would tell us of his walks through there as he went
to visit his grandfather in Hanson, or to catch the trolley from the South Hanson station to Kingston to court the lady who would
become my grandmother.  The gap between the house and
the trolley was four miles and he made that trip to her door for
five years.  That would be an eight-mile round trip just to the trolley...ahhh young love!!!

Respectfully submitted, Sue Basile

After 30 years with the Boston Police Department, rising to the rank of superintendent and chief of detectives, John F. Gallagher retired and turned to writing stories about true local crimes.  His latest venture brought him to Halifax to investigate the Sturtevant Murders.  Brothers Thomas Sturtevant and Simeon Sturtevant, along with their housekeeper, Mary Buckley, were brutally murdered in the Old Sturtevant homestead, February 15, 1874.  Come join us as we listen to John tell of his research into this heinous crime perpetrated "just down the street."
He will bring copies of his books, Murder on Broadway:  A History of Homicide in Hanover and Arsenic in Assinippi; and The Trial of Jennie May Eaton for the Murder of Her Husband, Rear Admiral Joseph Eaton, in case anyone is interested in those stories as well.
ALL ARE WELCOME.

Stop by and see for yourself.

"I am dead because I lack desire,
I lack desire because I think I possess.
I think I possess because I do not try to give.
In trying to give, you see that you have nothing.
Seeing that you have nothing, you try to give of yourself.
Trying to give of yourself, you see that you are nothing.
Seeing that you are nothing, you desire to become;
In desiring to become, you begin to live."
René Daumal
