Historical Tidbit:

The area now known as Raynham was once a part of Taunton, which was settled beginning in 1637.   The Iron Forge, established by the Leonard family in 1652, provided employment in this region for over two centuries.

The people who lived in this area considered the journey to Church Green in Taunton for Sunday worship services too long and in 1727 they petitioned to have their own church closer to home.

At that time, to have a new parish meant you were forming a new town.  That petition was rejected.

Persistence on their part paid off, and in 1731 they were granted permission to form a separate town and instructed to provide for a church and a school teacher.

The church was officially established on October 19, 1731, and Rev. John Wales was ordained as its first Pastor the next day.

Irish Republicanism
760 South Main Street - Raynham, MA
 Wednesday, March 16 - 6:30 PM

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Irish uprising known as the Easter Rising , when a handful of Irish patriots tried to wrest control of Ireland from Great Britain and set up a Republic.  Irish Republicanism has impacted culture, politics, and economics of Ireland throughout history.  By examining the lives of Wolfe Tone, Michael Collins, James Connolly, Bobby Sands, and Gerry Adams, we can see how the meaning of "Irish Republicanism" has evolved and what this means for the Irish peace process today.  Lisa Fields joins us to discuss "The Meaning of Irish Republicanism."  Please register.

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king." ~ J.R.R. TolkienThe Fellowship of the Ring
