Historical Tidbit:

East Bridgewater Sesquicentennial Commemorative Medal

The face of the Medal depicts the early building of the
Carver Cotton Gin Company, including its beautiful bridge spanning the Satucket River.
The structures have long since been replaced, but the location is still the same.
The Cotton Gin Company is one of the many early industries which played an important part in the lifestyle of this town.  The words "Pioneering in Industry" and "Time Past - Time Present" appear along with the dates 1823-1973.

The reverse of the Medal is the Town Seal.  The medal was first available in November of 1972, was designed by Richard Bartlett, and was struck by the V.H. Blackinton & Co. Inc., Attleboro Falls, Massachusetts.  The Town Seal on the reverse of the medal was designed by Mr. Jarvis Burrell and depicts the purchase of the land known as Bridgewater from Chief Ousamequin (Massasoit) of the Wampanoag tribe.

Work Permits for Teens

WORK PERMITS are available in the main office at the Junior-Senior High School.  If your child is 14-15 years old, they will need additional paperwork filled out by their doctor before we can issue a permit.  We have that paperwork here, so it can be picked up anytime the office is open.  Students who are 16-17 years old just need to bring a copy of their birth certificate and we can type out the permit while they wait.  For both age groups, they will need to have the job or promise of employment before we can give them the permit.

Each year the Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsors the Voice of Democracy audio essay contest to students at the local, state and national levels.  For many years the Social Studies Department has co-coordinated and submitted student entries.  This year's topic was "My Vision For America" and was judged by members of VFW Post 2125, which encompasses all three of the Bridgewaters.

This year's winners were:

First place:  John Immar

Second place:  Amelia Norton

Third place:  Kyle Carr

Congratulations to our three winners and to all of our students who worked hard on their entries. We are proud of all of you.
