Historical Tidbit :

West Bridgewater Historical
sites mark important events, time periods, traditions and natural areas.  They link today's residents with past residents.

The town is known for its wetlands and high water table making bridges an important part of the town's history.
One of the most significant sites is the War Memorial Park on River Street, the area of the town's early settlements.  Open to the public, the park commemorates its local industrial heritage and is regarded as the country's first "industrial park!"

Farming tools were produced here throughout the 1700's and the Town River, spanned by the Triple Arch Bridge, was used by mills and factories.  The brick kiln on Ash Street produced pottery.

The most famous house in town is the Rev. James Keith House, home to the first minister of the 1st Parish Church of Bridgewater.  There are several one- or two-room school houses in town now converted into homes and 130 homes are of historical significance, some dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The preservation of these sites will help maintain the character and identity of West Bridgewater.

Respectfully submitted,  Rob Lundquist

Greenways are corridors of land and water and the natural, cultural, and recreational resources they link together.  A riverfront walkway, a bicycle path, an urban walking trail connecting historical sites and neighborhood parks, a wildlife migration corridor, and a series of open spaces joined by trails are all examples of Greenways.  The Nunckatessett Greenway is a network of trail spurs connecting the Town River and Bay Circuit Trail to municipal and state conservation areas, historical sites and urban centers, school districts and Bridgewater State University, the Hockomock Swamp and the Wild & Scenic Taunton River.

South Shore Hospital's Youth Health Connection suggests this great Grade-by- Grade Parent resource:

NBC News Education Nation and Pearson USA have created an on-line Parent Resource Toolkit with a great depth of content designed to help parents support their child's growth & development in the classroom and beyond.  The toolkit is divided into single grade levels, Pre-K through 12th grade; and each grade level contains information on: academics, health & wellness-nutrition, health & wellness-physical development and social & emotional development.  Within the "Tips and Guides" section, you can access videos, academic, health & wellness or social-emotional development content. The social-emotional development section offers: tips, conversation starters and age appropriate book lists for content related to empathy, exploring emotions, relationships, resiliency and self-esteem; respecting diversity and conflict resolution. This website has great depth of content, resources, videos and more.  It is easy to navigate and sections are divided by individual grades or in some sections within developmental age categories.  Spend some time and check out this resource.
