Bridgewater / Raynham High School's Robotic's Team:
TJ2
 Trojans = T  &  Johnson & Johnson = J2

Each September, TJ2 recruits and welcomes new students from the ranks of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School.  The 80-90 students who initially sign up for this popular program begin preparing for the upcoming build/competition season by engaging in the many team activities that are required for success; most importantly, fundraising.  Through sponsorship, our annual Cape Cod Canal Day "bike-a-thon" and Gala Benefit Dinner & Auction team members race to generate the money that the team depends on.

  • TJ2 Robotics is a year-round program, part of the FIRST Program
  • Consisting of Students, Teachers, Engineers, Parents, Community Members and other professionals
  • Members with broad ranges of interests and talents, working together to achieve common goals of accomplishment, success, and pride.

In early January, TJ2 receives, along with more than a thousand teams from across the world, the new "Game" challenge.  Then, for the next six intense weeks, the team strives to design and construct a robot that can successfully meet the challenges of game play.  Once the completed robot is shipped, team coaches and members prepare for the competitions ahead. Those most dedicated students who have logged enough hours and raised the most money are selected for the "travel team."  These will be the team representatives at the regional competitions and, with any luck, the National Championship in St. Louis in April.
TJ2 is divided up into sub groups that each completes a specific task to help the team survive as a whole.  The following is a brief description of each of our specialist teams.

The Strategy Group, The Art Group, The Programming Group, The Build Group, and The Public Relations Group.
This year the PR group will be geared towards community involvement in an effort to interest young minds in the field of STEM.

Jan 09 they have a Kickoff and Jan 10, a Design Meeting.

HISTORICAL TIDBIT:
 From pp. 559-560 in Nason and Varney's Massachusetts Gazetteer, 1890

"Raynham, in the easterly part of Bristol County, and long associated with the cruder manufactures of iron, is 30 miles from Boston on the Taunton Branch of the Old Colony Railroad.  The post-offices are Raynham (centre) and North Raynham; and the other villages, Prattville, East Raynham and South Raynham.  Easton bounds it on the north; Bridgewater and Middleborough on the east; and Taunton on the south and west...
... The assessed area is 10,815 acres.  Smooch Hill in the east and Steep Hill in the west are the chief elevations.  Two-mile River, flowing through the midst of the town, and Taunton River, forming a part of the southern line, afford valuable mill sites.  Gushee Pond, in the cast, is the largest of the several ponds.  Fowling Pond in the western part has for the most part become a swamp, covered - in common with the 4, 512 acres of wood-land in the town - with pine, oak and cedar.  On the banks of this pond King Philip had his summer residence.  Nearby, James and Henry Leonard in 1652 established an iron furnace and forge.  These works continued in the hands of the Leonard family for more than one hundred years.  With this family the warrior of Mount Hope maintained a friendly intercourse, obtaining from their works implements for both peace and war. When hostilities commenced in 1675, the chieftain gave orders to his followers that the family should not be molested...

...The largest manufacture of this town at the present is boots and shoes; for which there were, in 1885, 5 factories employing about 150 persons, and making goods to the value of $189,649.  There were also made, shovels, nails, iron castings, wooden boxes, beverages and other food preparations.  The aggregate value of the manufactures was $224,303.  The 118 farms yielded to the amount of $116,533.  The town is prolific in fruits and berries.  The fisheries, consisting of alewives, herring and shad, yielded $4,609.  The population was 1,535, including 419 legal voters.  The valuation in 1888 was $829,168; and the tax-rate $11.80 on $1,000.  The taxed dwelling-houses were 375 in number."

This holiday season,
we have choices:
we choose to be busy,
or we choose to be calm;
we choose to buy lots
or we choose to live simply;
we choose to nurture ourselves, or we choose to ignore our body & spirit;
we choose to be around people who hurt us, or we choose to be                                                 around those who love us.

Each day is a new chance to live with the wisdom we have gained from past experiences.  Let's be kind to ourselves this holiday season.  Live in hope & live in joy.
