Buzz Around West Bridgewater
Winner of Anti-Bullying Poster Contest

Congratulations to middle school student Ella Milne, who won the "We Stand Together" poster contest, to help spread the word about standing up to bullies.
"She captured the theme of this project extraordinarily with the pictures she chose for her collage," said 7th grade English teacher and team leader Mary Aiello-Jones.
The contest took place in class and related to the students' summer reading of The Revealers.
Students were asked to make a collage of pictures representing groups of friends and scenes of teens helping each other, in a quest to depict the "stand together against bullying" theme. They were asked to explain each picture on the poster and how it represents the anti-bullying focus.
The project was evaluated as a test grade, including the oral presentation to the class explaining the photos chosen.
Teachers reviewed the students' poster projects and judged the posters on creativity and connection to the overall bullying theme. Judging took place during the school day over a few days' time.
Great job, Ella!

This holiday season,
we have choices:
we choose to be busy,
or we choose to be calm;
we choose to buy lots
or we choose to live simply;
we choose to nurture ourselves, or we choose to ignore our body & spirit;
we choose to be around people who hurt us, or we choose to be around those who love us.

Each day is a new chance to live with the wisdom we have gained from past experiences.  Let's be kind to ourselves
this holiday season.  Live in joy.

Historical Tidbit:
West Bridgewater Aviation

 Aviation came early to West Bridgewater with the forced landing of a bi-plane in 1911.  The plane was on its way to Bridgewater when it ran out of gas and was forced to land in a pasture on East Center Street just easterly of where Trucchi's Market is now located.

This fall occasion made a significant impression on the town's residents, seeing as the Wright brothers had flown only eight years earlier. Youngsters were impressed by the plane itself, and additionally so because of their early dismissal from school in order that they might view this strange looking visitor.

Top Tips to Help You stay Motivated and Fit
This Holiday Season

1) Partner up for the HolidaysGrab a buddy to stay accountable.  The more, the merrier!  Make it a family affair!

2) Bring FoodFailing to plan is planning to fail!  Bring food you know you can eat to parties and exert control!  One Christmas cookie won't unravel your hard work, but 10 certainly will!

3) Eat Before You Go ~ Fill up on a small meal, such as a nutrition shake; you'll be less likely to splurge.  Ensure you are hydrated; our bodies can confuse hunger for thirst!

4) I Really Regret That Workout, Said No One Ever!So you may not be able to beast it out as long as you normally do with all of the holiday hoopla going on; that's fine, as long as you get something in.  Don't take a holiday from your workouts!

5) Portion Your PlateThe traditional holiday plate is around 1300 calories!  Cut the calories in half by starting with the greens FIRST!  Then add the meat, followed by all the fixings and eat your meal in this order!  You just saved yourself around 600 calories!

Nunckatessett Greenway Project

A land and water trail network connecting people to the historical and natural places along the Town River and Bay Circuit Trail in West Bridgewater and Bridgewater, and  to their downtown business districts and school zones.

The Nunckatessett Greenway is a network of trail spurs connecting the Town River and the Bay Circuit Trail to municipal and state conservation areas, historical sites, urban centers, school districts, Bridgewater State University, the Hockomock Swamp, and the Wild & Scenic Taunton River.  Set aside for passive recreation by the towns of West Bridgewater and Bridgewater, the Nunckatessett Greenway connects people to the natural world.

Check out our developing website at www.nunckatessettgreenway.org

Our volunteers are in the process of finishing up the construction and installation of three kiosks along our trail network (Beaverton Woods, Woodchuck Chase, and Stiles & Hart), plus several smaller signs, using a $2,500 1:1 matching grant from the Wild & Scenic Taunton RIver Stewardship Council.

We also had nine volunteers from West Bridgewater, Bridgewater and Bridgewater State University partake in a Trails Stewardship Training Workshop facilitated by Beth Gula from AMC.  these local stewards will now share their knowledge with other stewards in our trail network in order to ensure a sustainable management.
