Raynham Secret Santa

Our Raynham Senior Center is collecting items for Secret Santa, the town-wide program run by the Raynham Firefighters.

We are seeking donations of new toys, clothing, puzzles, and games
for children of all ages.
We are also seeking donations of wrapping paper to assist the firefighters
with the wrapping of the presents.

All items can be dropped off at the front desk at the Raynham Senior Center, 2215 King Philip Street, Monday through Friday,
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until December 23.

Please join all of us in this effort to make Christmas a wonderful memory for Raynham families who need some assistance.
This holiday season,
we have choices:
we choose to be busy,
or we choose to be calm;
we choose to buy lots
or we choose to live simply;
we choose to nurture ourselves, or we choose to ignore our body & spirit;
we choose to be around people who hurt us, or we choose to be around those
who love us.

Each day is a new chance to live with the wisdom we have gained from past experiences.  Let's be kind to ourselves this holiday season.  Live in hope & live in joy.

HISTORICAL TIDBIT:

During the 1800s and well into the 1900s, Raynham had several small cottage industries that included:  a tack factory, a grist mill powered by a dam on Johnson's pond, sawmills, a bleachery, a straw hat factory, and several shoe "manufactories."

Prior to the advent of the mechanization of the shoe industry, shoes were frequently made in small shops that were sometimes located adjacent to the owners' homes.  Raynham had several of these small shoe shops.

A box factory, owned by George Williams, was located very close to the saw mill on Richmond Street.  That site is now occupied by industrial property.  The boxes that were manufactured there were used to store fish.  Each day, trucks delivered the boxes to fishing ports such as New Bedford, Provincetown, Plymouth, Boston and Sakonnet and Newport, RI.  At some point in the mid 1900s, fish was no longer packaged in wooden boxes.  Around this time the factory lost its profitability.

Top Tips to Help You stay Motivated and Fit
This Holiday Season

1) Partner up for the HolidaysGrab a buddy to stay accountable. The more, the merrier!  Make it a family affair!

2) Bring FoodFailing to plan is planning to fail!  Bring food you know you can eat to parties and exert control!  One Christmas cookie won't unravel your hard work, but 10 certainly will!

3) Eat Before You Go ~ Fill up on a small meal, such as a nutrition shake; you'll be less likely to splurge.  Ensure you are hydrated; our bodies can confuse hunger for thirst!

4) I Really Regret That Workout, Said No One Ever!So you may not be able to beast it out as long as you normally do with all of the holiday hoopla going on. That's fine, as long as you get something in.  Don't take a holiday from your workouts!

5) Portion Your PlateThe traditional holiday plate is around 1300 calories!  Cut the calories in half by starting with the greens FIRST! Then add the meat, followed by all the fixings and eat your meal in this order!  You just saved yourself around 600 calories!

Giving Thanks...
 From the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District

"The purpose of this post is to thank everyone within the communities of Bridgewater and Raynham, as well as the BRRSD for the incredible outpouring of support for the Raynham family who unfortunately experienced a house fire over the weekend.  The response has been absolutely overwhelming, which is not at all surprising.  That is what makes our communities and this District so special.  At this point, the family is very well situated with clothing and shoe/sneaker donations.  People who are still interested in making a monetary or gift card contribution, however, can still do so by dropping off the donations at the Merrill Elementary School in Raynham.
A special "thank you" goes out to Mrs. Deb Westell, Mrs. Kelly Blake, Mrs. Charlene Charette, Mrs. Colette Bythrow, and all the volunteers who organized the donation collection at the Merrill Elementary School on Sunday.  Please know that your efforts are greatly appreciated.  We thank everyone once again for supporting this family during their time of need."
