Buzz Around West Bridgewater

Library Directory Beth Roll Smith is Retiring

Beth Roll Smith is retiring on January 2, 2016.  Her last day serving as Library Director will be December 18, 2015.
The Board of Trustees will give her a farewell reception on Tuesday, November 17th, from 2 to 6 pm in the Art Galleria at the Library and you are invited.

In lieu of any gift, please make a donation to establish and fund a Community Service Scholarship in the name of Beth Roll Smith for a graduating Senior from the WBMSHS each year.

Beth served as Director for 27 years.  When she arrived on November 28, 1988, the new library building was ready to choose colors and kinds of furniture.  The new building opened on May 4, 1990 (or so). Beth led the charge to automate and bring the collection online in May 1995.  With an eye to the needs of the community, she increased staffing to serve most of those needs.  She also led efforts to bring repairs and renovations to key areas in the new building.  She has led, and continues to lead, the book discussion group that was begun by a patron in January 1995.   An active member of the community, she's been a member of the Bridgewaters Rotary Club since 1989.  She has also served as a member of the Municipal Building Needs Committee for 20 years, the Open Space Committee for 20 years,
the Agricultural Commission for four years, the Computer Advisory Council, and was President of the SAILS Library Network from 2011 to 2012.  Previously, she was a member of MLA, NELA, and ALA as well as NJLA.

Her plans are to stay in West Bridgewater with her husband Bob Smith for the foreseeable future and to enjoy skiing, yoga, swimming, walking, bicycle riding, folk dancing, traveling, gardening, family genealogy, catching up on reading, and taking courses in all subjects.

Thank you, Beth!
