Historical Tidbit: Iron Currency

Ruins of the Leonard Forge

In 1642, the first successful iron works was established in early Raynham, when it was part of Taunton.

Iron bars were sometimes used as currency for taxes. "School teachers and ministers often received iron bars as their salary. People saw iron as the only stable measure that kept its value."

"It was not unusual for a farmer to carry 500 pounds of iron in his wagon into town to pay his bills... Taunton was considered one of the wealthiest communities because of the Leonard's forge."

Established in 1971, the Raynham Giants Youth Football Organization  competes in the 24-team Old Colony Youth Football League (OCYFL).

Our home games are played at the Merrill/LaLiberte Elementary School complex.  Bettencourt Field is named in memory of the late Giant Ryan Bettencourt.  Ryan exemplified all the qualities that define the Giants:

hard work, determination, respect and sportsmanship.

Our teams include Mighty Mite (2nd Grade), Mites (3rd & 4th Grade), Peewees (5th & 6th Grade) and Midgets (7th & 8th Grade).
The organization's philosophy is to provide the very best in coaching the fundamentals of football techniques and strategies, stressing the importance of teamwork & sportsmanship and building personal confidence and character -- in a safe and enjoyable playing environment.

Driven by the dedication of our volunteer coaching staff and talented players, the Giants have a long legacy of OCYFL success, winning multiple Superbowl championships across all playing levels as well as National Youth Football Championships.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! to everyone for all your hard work, time, efforts, donations, and everything else you do. The ECPO board truly appreciates everything that everyone is doing. Nothing goes unnoticed.

We'd like to thank everyone for coming out to our meeting on Oct 8, 2015, meeting our new Superintendent Derek Swenson, and coming together for the common good of making L.B. Merrill and B-R preschool better places (better than they already are). We are so lucky to have such a wonderful school environment and a very active parent group. We had perhaps the largest turnout for an ECPO meeting ever, so thank you!!!!
Thank you to everyone who offered to volunteer. Yet we still need more HELP.
1)  We are looking for an Art Coordinator - someone to work with our art teachers to have the kids create a project which can be turned into goods (i.e., bags, mugs, key chains, etc.)  We have used Square 1 Art in the past. Ms. Russell uses Artonia. Please email Patty Wagner at the ECPO email if you are interested.
SANTA SPECTACULAR:

4)  For Photos: Bev Pauline (Coordinator) needs 5 more people to help. Stephanie Laflamme has also volunteered to help
5)  For Face Painting: Bev Pauline and Pam Benoit (Co-Coordinators) need 3 more volunteers
6)  For Santa's Workshop Lisa Lema/Jessica Lang/Ilona Robbins/Lisa Morrissey Wu - Need 7 more volunteers to help. Jason Lema has also volunteered
7)  For Decorations Committee - Amber Proctor (Coordinator) needs 3 more volunteers. Laurie Halls and Shawna Chabot have volunteered to help
8)  For Secret Santa - Leslie Kola and Debbie Chaves will be coordinating.
9)  WE NEED A COOKIES/WATER COORDINATOR - and 3-4 more volunteers to help pass out cookies/water
In total, we need about 32 more people.
Please consider helping in any way that you can. Santa Spectacular is such a wonderful event where we bring the entire school community together to celebrate the holidays!!!
Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do.
