Historical Tidbit: EARTHQUAKE
A story from Hilda (Morton) Thomas 1899 - 1991

"The Eastern states have seldom been troubled with earthquakes worthy of notice, except in one case. November 18, 1755, was a day long to be remembered in the annals of New England for a remarkable earthquake. The convulsion was greater and more terrifying than ever experienced before or since in this part of the globe. It is said that the ground swelled and rolled like the waves of the sea.

The evening was clear and serene, not the least current of air could be felt to move. The full moon shone in all its mildness, and all things seemed to be silent and in thoughtful meditation.
Suddenly, the undulations of the air accounted the approaching awful catastrophe. The ground rose so abruptly and so suddenly the leaves of the forest rose from the ground and floated about in the air.

The first shock was followed by two others, but they were comparatively light and did no harm. The first shock burst in several places in the area and honed out great quantities of earth and water.  In one case, it raised a house so high that a cradle with a child in it was thrown from one side of the room to the other.

This quake was so convulsive it filled the minds of both man and beast with consternation."

Respectfully submitted, Sue Basile

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! to everyone for all your hard work, time, efforts, donations, and everything else you do. The ECPO board truly appreciates everything that everyone is doing. Nothing goes unnoticed.

We'd like to thank everyone for coming out to our meeting  Oct 8, 2015, meeting our new Superintendent Derek Swenson, and coming together for the common good of making L.B. Merrill and B-R preschool better places (better than they already are). We are so lucky to have such a wonderful school environment and a very active parent group. We had perhaps the largest turnout for an ECPO meeting ever, so thank you!!!!
Thank you to everyone who offered to volunteer. Yet we still need more HELP.
1)  We are looking for an Art Coordinator - someone to work with our art teachers to have the kids create a project which can be turned into goods (i.e., bags, mugs, key chains, etc.)  We have used Square 1 Art in the past. Ms. Russell uses Artonia. Please email Patty Wagner at the ECPO email if you are interested.
SANTA SPECTACULAR:
2)  For the Arts/Crafts committee we need 5 additional people to help Pam Benoit/Jess Ferrara (Co-coordinators)
3)  For Admissions we need 5 more people to help Amy Ritchie and Kim McRae (Co-Coordinators). Becky Humphrey is also volunteering to help
4)  For Photos: Bev Pauline (Coordinator) needs 5 more people to help. Stephanie Laflamme has also volunteered to help
5)  For Face Painting: Bev Pauline and Pam Benoit (Co-Coordinators) need 3 more volunteers
6)  For Santa's Workshop Lisa Lema/Jessica Lang/Ilona Robbins/Lisa Morrissey Wu - Need 7 more volunteers to help. Jason Lema has also volunteered
7)  For Decorations Committee - Amber Proctor (Coordinator) needs 3 more volunteers. Laurie Halls and Shawna Chabot have volunteered to help
8)  For Secret Santa - Leslie Kola and Debbie Chaves will be coordinating.
9)  WE NEED A COOKIES/WATER COORDINATOR - and 3-4 more volunteers to help pass out cookies/water
In total, we need about 32 more people.
Please consider helping in any way that you can. Santa Spectacular is such a wonderful event where we bring the entire school community together to celebrate the holidays!!!
Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do.
