Bridgewater Business Association's Autumn Fest was a fantastic day!

A BIG "thank you" to all the volunteers.
www.bridgewaterbiz.biz

Funds raised from Autumn-Fest, Christmas on the Common, and other events and activities the BBA sponsors help fund and grow the BBA Charity Fund. This fund has been established to help residents who seek assistance with life needs, not only during the harsh winter months, but all year long. The Bridgewater Business Association raises money to fund this account, as well as continue the operation of our organization. Since 2005, the BBA has donated over $75,000 and helped more than 300 Bridgewater residents.

Historical Tidbit:

1840-1860 BSU was a Teaching Normal School. Founded on principles drawn from the West Point model of the "fine art of teaching," as opposed to lecture-examination or recitation-examination method.

A normal school was a school created to train high school graduates to be teachers. Its purpose was to establish teaching standards or norms, hence its name.

Tillinghast Hall (1916) is at the corner of School and Summer streets. Named after the first principal of Bridgewater Normal School

TEAM TIFFANY!

On October 11, we're riding to cure Friedreich's ataxia (FA), a debilitating, life shortening neuromuscular disease that affects the heart, eyes, bones; the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and live a normal life. We'll ride with local FA families, friends and cycling enthusiasts to redefine what is possible in FA research.

We want to thank everyone for your support in the past. FARA is in the last leg of the marathon to find a cure!

This year, Tiffany is joining us in her wheelchair bike that she received from FARA's Ataxia Athletic Initiative Grant. We are very excited to be Team Tiffany! Please donate: checks can be made out to FARA and sent to 20 Woodland Drive, Bridgewater, MA 02324, 533 W. Uwchlan Ave, Downington, PA 19335 or just follow this link and donate on line to Team Tiffany!

Sacred Circle Dancing throughout the Fall!
Every 4th Sunday
(10/25 & 11/22) 12:30-2:00 pm  Bridgewater New Jerusalem Church
2 Bedford Street, Bridgewater

Would you enjoy dancing simple, joyful dances in a circle of friendly people? To relax and let go of daily stress in a community of kindred spirits? Then come join us every fourth Sunday
this fall.
Beginners are always welcome. No partner is necessary. The steps are simple, carefully taught each time, and easily learned. We do traditional dances from around the world (Greece, Israel, Scotland, Russia, France, North and South America, etc.) along with newly choreographed dances. The music is a delightful mix of ethnic, classical, and pop. Some dances are slow and meditative and others are quite lively and invigorating.
Circle Dance is a means for relaxation, joy, growth, awareness and healing. Also known as Sacred Dance or World Dance, it was birthed at Findhorn, a spiritual community in Scotland.
Come try it out! For more information contact
bridgewaternewchurch
 or
 call 508-443-1688.

"Remembering Franklin D. Roosevelt," an informative lecture at the Bridgewater Public Library

Presented by Historian and Professor Gary Hylander on October 27th

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the death of Franklin Roosevelt, a president whom many historians celebrate as the greatest president of the twentieth century.

Join us as we discuss how FDR's New Deal Programs worked to relieve the unemployment crisis of the Great Depression and in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, to fight and win a war in both Europe and Asia. No matter how grave the situation appeared, a confident FDR assured the nation that "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Hylander is currently an independent scholar who specializes as a presidential historian, a pedagogical specialist for the National Endowment for the Humanities and professor of history.

The event, which is funded by the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library, begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Public Library and is free and open to the public.

The Beatles: Band of the Sixties

The program will be supplemented with audio clips of music and excerpts from interviews with the band members.
This is a free event open to the public.  All are welcome.
