 Ousamequin Woman's Club

The Ousamequin Woman's Club members and guests enjoyed a lovely Autumn Tea for its opening meeting of the 2015-2016 season.
Our special guest was the newly-elected Bridgewater Town Clerk, Marilee Kenney Hunt. Her descriptions of the day-to-day workings
of her position were both informative and humorous. She dressed elegantly for our occasion in black, with a hat, pearls, gloves, and a ready smile. Our members and guests caught up on summer news, as they prepared   for another season of community volunteer work.

The Four-Legged Tree

Legend has it that if you make a wish under the legs of a four-legged tree, your wish will come true.  For 121 years, Bridgewater had such a tree.  In 1833, Eleazer Carver planted four trees beside his front gate.  When the trees were tall enough, he chained them together.   They grew into one to form a living arch.   They remained a landmark for travelers heading south to the Cape along Summer Street.   Located near the entrance to Carver's Pond, the tree was a source of curiosity and wonder until 1954 when the last part of the tree was taken down due to Dutch elm disease.

South Shore Hospital's Youth Health Connection
suggests the book:  "The Mindful Teen" by Dzung X. Vo, MD, FAAP as a great resource for helping our stressed out teens.

Christine O'Shaughnessy calls it "the book for teenagers to have on hand to reference when difficult circumstances or emotions arise in their life. It will teach the reader how to stay in touch with their true authentic self even in the midst of stressful situations. "It is beautifully written in a language that teens & tweens will easily understand with personal stories they can directly identify with. Dr. Vo provides easy instructions to follow for a variety of meditation and mindfulness practices with readily available downloads to guide the reader."

In this world of many stresses and many influences, every teenager (and adult) needs a toolbox of ways to handle situations. Mindfulness and meditation have long been understood to be a way to still a racing mind and help handle hard situations.

Author to Speak at Bridgewater Public Library

Tara Shuman
 October 7,  6:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public and will include a book signing.  Hope Is a Good Breakfast, and other humble thoughts on my cancer journey
is not simply a book about cancer, but rather, a story about strength and struggle, fear and failure, life and love. Hope Is a Good Breakfast offers proof for all ages of how some people decide to not only hope but also to dream big - really big - even when the odds are stacked against them.

Tara is the proud founder of Writing Saves Lives
a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote writing as a way to cope and heal.

Sacred Circle Dancing throughout the Fall!
Would you enjoy dancing simple, joyful dances in a circle of friendly people? To relax and let go of daily stress in a community of kindred spirits? Then come join us every fourth Sunday this fall (9/27, 10/25 & 11/22) from 12:30-2:00 pm at the Bridgewater New Jerusalem Church, 2 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, MA.

Beginners are always welcome. No partner is necessary. The steps are simple, carefully taught each time, and easily learned. We do traditional dances from around the world (Greece, Israel, Scotland, Russia, France, North and South America, etc.) along with newly choreographed dances. The music is a delightful mix of ethnic, classical, and pop. Some dances are slow and meditative and others are quite lively and invigorating.
Circle Dance is a means for relaxation, joy, growth, awareness and healing. Also known as Sacred Dance or World Dance, it was birthed at Findhorn, a spiritual community in Scotland.
Come try it out! For more information contact
pastor@bridgewaternewchurch

 call 508-443-1688.
