Historical Tidbit:
Blacksmiths

Prior to 1900, Bridgewater had thousands of horses that pulled farm implements and wagons of all types.

Every neighborhood had a blacksmith shop ranging from a small forge in a barn to more elaborate shops like this one on Broad Street across from Friendly's. This one had a ramp to the second floor for wagon repairs.

Blacksmiths were also your neighborhood repair men for all sorts of equipment. They could repair harnesses, wagon wheels, a broken shovel, a plow or put a new handle on a frying pan. If you broke it, the neighborhood "smithy" could fix it.

The event is free and open to the public and will include a book signing.  Hope Is a Good Breakfast, and other humble thoughts on my cancer journey
is not simply a book about cancer, but rather, a story about strength and struggle, fear and failure, life and love. Hope Is a Good Breakfast offers proof for all ages of how some people decide to not only hope but also to dream big - really big - even when the odds are stacked against them.

Tara is the proud founder of Writing Saves Lives
a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote writing as a way to cope and heal.

Goldfinch & Sunflowers - Mary Wright Julius

Hidden Hummingbird - Mary Wright Julius

"I love to watch the birds and butterflies that come to the late-summer garden. Flocks of grackles fill the trees and empty the feeders every day as they get ready to journey South. The hummingbirds are gathering nectar from the bee balm and the butterfly bush is a favorite of the black swallowtail. The yellow goldfinches are busy pulling every seed from the sunflowers. Occasionally, the cooper's hawk shows up at the feeders and all the birds scatter until he leaves. September is a time of transition, of preparing for colder weather and the first frost, and the birds know it's coming."

Thank you, Mary, for sharing these beautiful captures of life!
"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity."
~ George S. Patton

"You won't change anything significant in the world if you try to be like it. Change comes when you do something different."
Shannon L. Alder

"Much ingenuity with a little money is vastly more profitable and amusing than much money without ingenuity." ~
Arnold Bennett
