Women eighteen and older are invited to attend a meeting, which is held on the first Monday of the month at 7 PM from September to May at Bristol Plymouth's Silver Platter Restaurant in Taunton. Call Joyce at 508 823-4482 or go on line to www.gfwctauntonraynhamjuniors.org

Historical Tidbit:
Toll House
There used to be a Toll house on Broadway (Route 138), reported to be built in 1793 near the Taunton line,
where a fee was collected from those herding cattle down the Taunton Turnpike from the Brighton stockyards to areas of Southeastern Massachusetts.
It is in its original location on what was known as the Toll Road leading from Boston to New Bedford.
In 1806, the Taunton-South Boston Turnpike was laid out over the old Toll Road.

RAYNHAM CULTURAL COUNCIL SEEKS FUNDING PROPOSALS

The Raynham Cultural Council is inviting organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support community oriented arts, humanities, and science programs in Raynham and neighboring communities.

According to Council spokesperson Dr. Leigh Kozak, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities -- including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures.

The Raynham Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.

This year, the Raynham Cultural Council will distribute at least $4300 in grants. Our application postmark deadline is October 15, 2015. Previously funded projects include MFA Library Pass, Raynham Reads, Concerts at the Stone Church, and RAVE school programs.

For specific guidelines and complete information on the Raynham Cultural Council, contact the Council at raynhamculturalcouncil@gmail.com. Application forms and more information about the Local Cultural Council Program are available online at www.mass-culture.org/lcc_public.aspx

Goldfinch & Sunflowers - Mary Wright Julius

Hidden Hummingbird - Mary Wright Julius

"I love to watch the birds and butterflies that come to the late-summer garden. Flocks of grackles fill the trees and empty the feeders every day as they get ready to journey South. The hummingbirds are gathering nectar from the bee balm and the butterfly bush is a favorite of the black swallowtail. The yellow goldfinches are busy pulling every seed from the sunflowers. Occasionally, the cooper's hawk shows up at the feeders and all the birds scatter until he leaves. September is a time of transition, of preparing for colder weather and the first frost, and the birds know it's coming."

Thank you, Mary, for sharing these beautiful captures of life!

~ George S. Patton

"You won't change anything significant in the world if you try to be like it. Change comes when you do something different."
Shannon L. Alder
