Art + Botany = Fun!!!

On July 14 and 18, Florals from the Heart  & the EBBA gave an opportunity for budding artists to illustrate some of the botanical wonders at their shop.

Refreshments were provided. Artists of all ages were in attendance.

There are no mistakes in art, and no artwork is ever a total accomplishment.

One never knows who may become a classic painter along the lines of a

Salvador Dali or a Pablo Picasso.

Historical Tidbit:

HOME DELIVERIES

Back in the early 1900's, going to the store was not a very common practice.  Twice a week the grocery man would travel around town in the morning with his horse and wagon, visiting every home, and take orders for the dry goods that were needed.  It would have been an item that the homeowner could not grow or raise themselves such as flour, coffee, tea, etc.  That afternoon he would return to each home with their delivery.

There was also a gentleman from Middleboro who would come around with his wagon selling meat.  He was the butcher and usually came once a week.  He would have a large drawer on the back of the wagon where the meat was kept and would cut what you wanted from the meat he carried that day.  He would also take an order if he didn't have what you wanted.

Dream Tale Puppets Presents Rumpelstiltskin

Monday, August 3 at 4pm

EB Public Library

Rumpelstilskin follows the well known fairy tale about a girl whose father, the Miller, loved her so much that he made up stories about her unusual talents. Truthfulness wasn't something the Miller cared much about, but after he bragged to the king whose treasury coffers where empty, he put his only child into big trouble. His daughter Kathleen had to spin straw into gold or lose her life! Fortunately, an odd looking stranger jumped straight into the story and offered the help. Accepting help from strangers is always risky business, and that is how it was this time. After the king married Kathleen and made her into the queen, she gave her royal husband a child -- but she was faced with losing it all if she could not pass one more test: finding well hidden word - the name of mysterious stranger.
This 40- 45 minutes long show features five beautifully crafted table-top puppets brought to life by two masterful puppeteers: Jacek Zuzanski and Norina Reif or Margaret Moody. Suggested audience ages 3 and up.

Puppeteers will stay for questions & allow children to meet the puppets after the performance.

Once in a Blue Moon

When one hears the phrase 'once in a blue moon,' it generally implies something that happens only once in a great while.

However, there is an astronomical truth to the saying.

A Blue Moon represents a full moon that appears in a month that has already had a full moon previously in it. July 2 and July 31, 2015, happen to have such a celestial showing.

This usually happens every two or three years, with the next Blue Moon not occurring until January 2 and January 31, 2018.

The etymology of the term 'Blue Moon' can be traced to the old term 'belewe', to betray, or perhaps from the old folklore that gave every month's moon a particular name with the term 'Blue' coined as to not displace the titles of the other showings. Those who find this fascinating can link into infoplease.com/spot/bluemoon for more data.

2nd Annual. Sept 5th, come run with us!

Jessica C. Thurston was a native of East Bridgewater who sadly passed

In honor of her resiliency and in an effort to raise funds for further research into breast cancer treatment, the Second Annual Run for Jess road race will be held on September 5th at the East Bridgewater Commercial Club.

"Hope" Is The Thing With Feathers

"Hope" is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I've heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
