Buzz Around West Bridgewater
                                  Pleasant Hill Cemetery

Those interested in Pleasant Hill Cemetery Inc. of West Bridgewater (the 3 acre historic non-profit cemetery off the end of Old West Center Street beyond the Park & Ride) are invited to 'LIKE' their recently established Facebook page called

The Cemetery is staffed 100% by volunteers, and contains the graves of many town fathers, family plots, veterans from Spanish-American, Civil, and World Wars, POWs, and even an underground railroad child.
In addition to updates on the cemetery, lovers of genealogy and history will enjoy reading the "lot by lot" summaries being posted of those buried within the grounds along with headstone photos.  Although there is extensive historical significance, Pleasant Hill is still an operating cemetery,
and lots & graves remain available to purchase.

In addition to the Facebook page, a fundraiser has been established at:  www.gofundme/PleasantHillCem to raise money to repair the disturbing vandalism damaged suffered between 2012-2015, as well as clean illegible old stones, repair/reset fallen ones due to age/deterioration, and do other necessary improvements and future maintenance to protect the cemetery and ensure the preservation of its history.

Any questions, please contact Lauren Finch Delaney at 877-361-7906 or email phcemetery@gmail.com.

Historical Tidbit: On Samuel Allen

                                      Samuel Allen House

"Picture if you will, Samuel Allen's residence in this community, in 1660. Everything that went into his humble cabin had to be hewn from the forest by hand.  Everything he ate had to be grown or be killed in the forests. Everything he wore had to be spun from thread and his clothes were sparse and to say the least, itchy.  His cabin probably had a dirt floor, there were no lights.  His knowledge of what went on in the world was non-existent.  The dangers of the forest were very great, for they were the unknown.  The winters were bitter, cold and terrible, the summers hot and humid, and loneliness was an overriding fact of life.

"Samuel Allen was by any standard a rugged pioneer and adventurer, whose hands were calloused from dawn to dusk struggle just to survive. Samuel Allen was a strong man and this strength carried him through to the eventual office as the Town Clerk of Bridgewater and the deacon of his church.  But he was the first settler and tribute must be paid to him today. For without the Sam Allens of the world, nothing would have ever been settled."

Respectfully Taken from the East Bridgewater. MA Sesquicentennial

Summer Adventures at the Pond

During the long, humid weeks of summer, the youngsters with adventurous hearts seek satisfaction in one of the oldest, dirtiest and yet most satisfying of past times: they go to the local pond! Here they can find things real and unreal to stimulate their minds.

They can find the reality of frogs and snakes, crayfish and turtles, cool creatures from the primeval past.  They can test speed and reflexes in the capture of these critters. Here too, they can sometimes fall into the mire and become messier than the things they try and catch. At the pond,  the youngster can find the creations of the mind.  Is that not a goblin hiding behind that rock? Is there not a dinosaur swimming just under the water, it's eyes peering out?  Could this pond not the landing zone for an alien invasion, bent on world conquest?  Ahh, the joys of it all!

Then there is the return home, often a mess, sometimes with 'friend' in hand.  Why does mommy scream so when we bring our 'friends' in? And why the insistence on going into the bathtub?

We had plenty of fun in the water already!

"A cheerful frame of mind, reinforced by relaxation... is the medicine that puts all ghosts of fear on the run."

"Self-awareness is not just relaxation and not just meditation. It must combine relaxation with activity and dynamism."

Relax and enjoy the rest of your summer! Think about the good you've done, the growth you've undergone, and be proud of yourself!
