Mind Body Spirit Healing is a new EB spot with an old EB soul. Mind body spirit healing

Stacy opened her studio in her family homestead.  Her grandparents, parents and now her own family lives there: 541 North Central Street. She loves the idea of bringing wellness to every neighborhood, so that each person could just walk up the street to a center, experiencing that nurturing whole body, mind and spirit comfort.

Stacy commits herself to a life of giving and love. She volunteers weekly at the Blue Dog Shelter in Brockton, providing Reiki for the homeless dogs. This brings peace into their lives as they transition from one owner to another. This past June, Stacy participated in a One Mission Buzz Off, donating (5) 18" pony tails to Locks of Love.

Even in her professional life, as an adjunct English professor at Bridgewater State University, Stacy says "I love the creativity of my students, they are great."  This is the soul Stacy brings to creating her Mind Body Spirit Healing Center.

"The word Yoga means 'yoke'; the practice of Yoga yokes a person's mind, body, and spirit together.  "I teach yoga so that people can experience finding length and space in their bodies."   said Stacy.  "This creates the opportunity for sending oxygen deeper into the cells, helping the cells heal and be stronger."

Stacy likes the intimacy that the Mind Body Spirit Space offers.  It's a setting that provides small classes and neighborhood friendliness.

She invites everyone to join her for a class July and August at half price.  No membership needed, but reservations are necessary, by phone or on line. mindbodyspirithealing.weebly.comLike us on Facebook

  Historical Tidbit:

No traffic over the Cape Cod Canal?

If our colonial settlers had their way, there would be no need for a Cape Cod Canal!  By the 1790's ideas of building a canal joining Massachusetts Bay and Buzzards Bay had started to unfold.

The first of these was a canal from the North River to the Taunton River. The town of Halifax was considering ways to reach the Taunton River from Monponsett Pond. The waterway would head south meeting the Winnetuxet River then leading to the Taunton River. Not only was it being planned, in some locations digging had begun. The Monponsett connection north would pass through the swamps of Pembroke and link up with the North River.

How about a canal from Boston Harbor to the Taunton River by way of Brockton?
Maybe Hingham Harbor to the Taunton River or from Plymouth Harbor to the Taunton River? All these ideas have surfaced throughout the years.

In the early 1900's, the Massachusetts Harbor and Land Commission were authorized to make surveys of East Bridgewater' s Satucket and Matfield Rivers along with Robbins Pond.  The commission surveyed West Bridgewater's Town River, Raynham and Bridgewater's Hockomock Swamp and Nippenicket Pond as well as Hanson and Halifax's Stump and Monponsett Ponds.

Throughout the research and reviews, the varied elevation of lands surrounding the possible canal route would demand the use of many locks, lifts, dams, bridges and saltwater pumps. Costs could not justify any further considerations. The end came on June 22, 1909, when
financier August Belmont's company lifted the first shovelful of earth beginning the construction of the Cape Cod Canal (completed August 15 1914).

What would our history have looked like if any of these other canals happened instead?

             Healthy Community Design Summit

July 15 from 7:30 to 10am EB Jr/ Sr High School

Please come!

Mark Fenton, a national public health, planning and transportation consultant, recently lead a walking audit of EB.  Joe Leaver, John Haines, Julie Whitmore, and Lauren Bartell were in attendance.                 During the audit, the group walked from the high school to the center of town and toward the post office, and back down Rt. 18 toward the back entrance of the high school.  They then drove to two neighborhoods, Stone Gate Drive and Eliab Latham Way, so Mark could see a newer vs. older development.

Our Healthy Community Design Summit, also lead by Mark, will review his findings from the scouting day and have a planning session. This is an exciting opportunity and will prove very advantageous for us in applying for further funding for Healthy EB.

To RSVP, please fill out this form RSVP for Healthy EB Summit: late RSVPs will be accepted, it is important that all interested parties participate!

Mosquitoes
Due to the warm and humid weather, the mosquito population also explodes in our area, usually beginning at the end of June and lasting through Labor Day. The need for  mosquito control, during this period, grows exponentially.

When deciding how to control mosquitoes, there are several factors to keep in mind, which can be a big difference maker in how successful you are.
"How long each stage lasts depends on both temperature and species characteristics. Some species of mosquito can go through its life cycle in 14 days at 70° F and take only 10 days at 80° F. On the other hand, some species have naturally adapted to go through their entire life cycle in as little as four days or as long as one month." According to the American Mosquito Control Association.

Make sure your products have the residual capability to effectively control mosquitoes. Almost anything will kill the adults, but very few do-it- yourself pest control products will eliminate all stages of the life cycle.
Look for the conditions that are conducive to mosquito breeding. If you have heavy leaf litter, dense canopies, wood piles, or standing water on your property, try to remove these vulnerabilities. It'll go a long way toward reducing the breeding grounds that mosquitoes prefer.

If you hire a company, ask exactly how they treat: What type of product is being used? Is everyone who treats fully licensed by the Commonwealth and experienced in the industry?
Burgess Pest Management  follows the industry standard and treats every 3-4 weeks. If you would like more information:

Thanks to Randy Julius for bringing this free concert to town.
We were the 3rd to last concert, as they ended their trek at Kingston Bay.

The group says "Thank you to our friends and family, to all the local artists and promoters, and to all our sponsors who helped make the 2015 Massachusetts Walking Tour the best year yet.
The Bay Circuit Trail has been "crushed," and 13 community concerts given along the way.
It couldn't have been possible without help from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, New England Mountain Outfitters (NEMO), the Bay Circuit Alliance, and Mr. Bill Condry.
