FIREWORKS & A HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

It may have been a rainy night on Saturday June 27, but the weather only made the fireworks show go off earlier than planned.
Glorious! No one seem to mind that they got a little wet and a few umbrellas were seen throughout the crowd.
The pyrotechnical displayed thrilled the audience and the weather was kind enough to hold off the downpour until everyone had safely returned home.
Halifax Meeting House
They say timing is everything.  July 4 is not only the  birthday of the United States of America but it is also the birthday of the town of Halifax.
On July 4, 1734, Halifax was incorporated; she is the only town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to share this date.
281 years later she is strong and still looking great!  We at Buzz Around wish her many, many more.
In honor of her special day, we have some fascinating pictures of her past.

Thank you, Sue Basile, for doing such a great job digitizing Halifax's history.

Independence Day
Benjamin Franklin Photo courtesy of Wikipedia

The Declaration of Independence has five parts. They are: the Preamble, the Statement of Human Rights, Charges Against Human Rights, Charges Against the King and Parliament, and the Statement of Separation and Signatures.

56 people signed the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson wrote the majority of it. The writing committee was: Benjamin Franklin (pictured here), John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston and Thomas Jefferson.
Both Thomas Jefferson  and John Adams died on July 4, 1826.

July Fourth is the "biggest hot dog holiday of the year," according to TIME magazine, with Americans reportedly consuming about 155 million of them on Independence Day alone.

"According to legend, on July 4, 1776, John Adams...and his wife, Abigail, sat down for a celebratory meal of turtle soup, New England poached salmon with egg sauce, green peas and boiled new potatoes in jackets. They followed the meal with Indian pudding or Apple Pandowdy," wrote Justine Sterling for Delish.com in 2011.

Retirement Appreciation for Captain Gerald Elliot

On June 9, Captain Gerald Elliott received a certificate of appreciation for nearly twenty years of service as fire fighter, training officer and Captain for the Halifax Fire Department while family, friends and elected officials looked on.

Cake and cold drinks were served as Selectwoman Kim Roy presented the certificate and Chief Jason Viveiros, surprising Mr. Elliott, gave him the #56 from the helmet he had worn the last twenty years, as it had been decided to retire the number.

Good luck in your retirement!
