Buzz Around Bridgewater, MA
Bridgewater Recreation Summertime Program
School is out... what next?!

Yes, it is that time of year again, when school is over and your youngster's energy needs a place to be free. The Bridgewater Recreation Summer Program runs from June 29 through August 21, 8:30am -12:30pm; allowing children between the ages of five through fourteen the option of attending five, four, three or two days a week.
Due to the holiday, the program is closed Friday July 3rd.

They explore the community around us and what it has to offer.  Children have the chance to meet new friends and have fun while giving you some time.

To cool down they have pools and water-based fun, so keep this in mind when they are dressed. Rain will not deter the action, as they have indoor contingency plans.

Employment opportunities for counselors, seventeen and over who have the energy to match these younglings.

Payments are made the Thursdays and Fridays of the weeks before the children arrive, with the options for as little as one week, all weeks, or as many as the parents find appropriate. Please call Nancy Wood at 508-697-7617 (H) or 774-210-0072 (C) before 9pm with further questions. Further information came be reached at:

  Historical Tidbit:
Making the Past Last

Founded in 1791, the Massachusetts Historical Society, an independent research library, is an invaluable resource for American history, life, and culture.  Its extraordinary collections tell the story of America through millions of rare and unique documents, artifacts, and irreplaceable national treasures.

As the nation's first historical society, the MHS strives to enhance the understanding of our nation's past and its connection to the present, demonstrating that history is not just a series of events that happened to individuals long ago, but is integral to the fabric of our daily lives. Its collections are accessible to anyone with an interest in American history.

Beyond research, the MHS offers many ways for the public to enjoy its collections, including free exhibitions, public lectures, tours, brown-bag lunches, seminars, and teacher workshops.

dove cross Prayer Vigil for the Victims of the A.M.E. shooting in Charlestown, SC
Sunday,  June 21st  7-8 pm,
Central Square Congregational Church,
71 Central Sq., Bridgewater

Congregations and clergy from the Bridgewater area will gather for a prayer vigil to remember all of the victims of this shooting, their friends and relatives, and their congregation.  We mourn their loss, and we gather to express our solidarity with them and with all victims of racism and violence.

This will be a time to grieve the loss of life, to stand against racism, hate, and violence, and to again signal our desire for stricter back ground checks for gun ownership. Bring a candle or sign or flowers if you wish - but most of all bring yourself. It will also be a time to share our feelings and concerns with one another.

All congregations and religious leaders are welcome to join us.

GBWOT Lemonade Stand in Memory of

Shannon Crowley

Saturday, June 27, 2015

 10:00am - 12:00pm

 Winter Place, Bridgewater

During these hot summer days, come cool off with a refreshing glass of Lemonade and some sweet treats at the Greater Bridgewater Women of Today Lemonade Stand!  We will have lemonade and baked goods and the proceeds will benefit the Cops for Kids with Cancer Organization in memory of Shannon Crowley. Shannon was an 8 year old cancer survivor who passed away last June, from complications of treatment for neuroblastoma. This will be the second year in a row that GBWOT has held the Lemonade Stand in Shannon's memory.

Last year the group raised $1,115 for Cops for Kids with Cancer with the lemonade stand and the group hopes to raise even more this year.  Greater Bridgewater Women of Today is a volunteer organization that performs community service, raises funds to support local and national charities and fosters friendships. To date, GBWOT has helped over 40 local families who were enduring hardships, through it's Family in Need Fund. Meetings are open to the public and are held on the third Monday of the month. For meeting location in Bridgewater or for additional event information email: greaterbridgewater@yahoo.com. Remember to Visit Us on Facebook!

Bridgewater Arts & Music Festival, held on July 4th (rain date of July 5th) on the grounds of Bridgewater State University is calling all artisans, crafters, artistsand vendors to register for the annual festival. The children's area will offer activities, games, face painting and a storyteller, along with the Roaming Railroad train. Performances by the Arts for Youth program, along with live music and dance will occur throughout the early afternoon. The art show with local artists will be on display with prizes awarded to a winner in each category. The festival opens at 10:00 a.m., July 4 on the grounds of Bridgewater State University, "this is where visitors congregate immediately following the town parade", said organizer Nora Tarr.

Bridgewater State University, as it has for the last several years, donated the use of the grounds, electricity to make this day a full day of events for families in Bridgewater and the surrounding communities. Our continuing goal is to provide as many free events as possible, and to present all types of art including music, poetry and the spoken word, dance, painting, photography, pottery, jewelry design, creative and unique clothing. Transportation Notice for B-R Students

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The pay to ride registration program was extended in Bridgewater during the month of May due to the impact of the partial roof collapse at the Mitchell Elementary School. Please note that the deadline for payment which was originally scheduled for May 29, 2015 was too short a period of time for families to respond. In order to assist families with their planning for next school year's transportation, the payment deadline will be extended through August 15, 2015.

It is important, however, that you submit your registration forms as soon as possible in June so that routing arrangements can be made in time for bus information to be sent home with students at the end of the school year. Pay to ride registration is for all students living less than one mile and a half (1.5) from their school of attendance in grades Kindergarten through grade 12. If you have a form that indicates the district will pay for Kindergarten, this form is out of date and does not reflect the current Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School Committee policy. New forms are available online or by request.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely yours,

Kathleen A. Macedo
Director of Business Services
