Historical Tidbit:
June 6th D-Day

The day the Allied powers crossed the English Channel and landed on five beach- heads along Normandy, France.
Operation Overlord began the night of June 5th, and at dawn on June 6, 18,000 parachutists were already on the ground; the land invasions began at 6:30 a.m. The British and Canadians overcame
light opposition to capture Gold, Juno and Sword beaches; so did the Americans at Utah beach. The task was much tougher at Omaha beach, however, where 2,000 troops were lost. It was only through the tenacity and ingenuity of troops on the ground that the objective was
achieved.  By day's end, 155,000 Allied American, British, and Canadians had successfully stormed Normandy's beaches. Within three months, the northern part of France would be freed and the invasion force was pushing ever forward, ultimately into Germany and the end of the Nazi scourge of Europe.

Eat Healthy & Get Moving!

By Kim Noble, RN, MBA; YHC Program Coordinator

vegetables

It is finally feeling like summer! The farmer's markets are opening and there are lots of people out walking, running, hiking and cycling.

To help everyone move more and eat healthier the Turn the Tide Foundation has a number of resources on their website. click here for website

These include: ABC for Fitness© (Activity Bursts in the Classroom,) A-B-E for Fitness (Activity Bursts Everywhere,) Nutrition Detectives® Teaching Kids to Make Healthy Choices, UnJunk Yourself, and more.  The ABC For Fitness© and the A-B-E for Fitness are designed to help youth and adults add in movement to days when they are sitting in class or the office.

The Nutrition Detectives® is a program for elementary age students to help them learn to read food labels.   The Unjunk Yourself program is designed to help youth learn important health messages on nutrition and physical activity through music and dance video clips. They have just released a new video entitled "I'm an Animal," it is just under 3 minutes in length and highlights the need for us all to consume "real" food vs. processed food.  To view the videos from Turn the Tide FoundationUnJunk Yourself, including "I'm an Animal," visit: click here

Turn the Tide Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization created to help combat obesity by developing, evaluating, and disseminating creative, yet practical programs that can be used in the real world, by real people, for free.
