Buzz Around Bridgewater, MA
Many Thanks For a Great Library Fundraiser!

We sure know how to party at the library!   More than 120 people had a great time at the spring fundraiser.  Thanks to many local businesses and individuals, we had a rockin' good time raising money to support the library's projects, including programs for kids and adults, museum passes, etc.
Thanks to the Friends of the BWPL for sponsoring his fun evening.

Bridgewater Firefighters

Bridgewater Firefighters proudly protect the twenty-eight thousand residents living in an area of twenty-eight square miles.

The organization of the Bridgewater Fire Department dates back to 1844 as a volunteer fire brigade.  In 1923, after a devastating fire at the former Normal School, presently Bridgewater State College, the fire department was reorganized.  The original station  was constructed in the 1860's and additional additions were made to the facility in 1951, 1960, and 1972.

Outdoor Destinations & Country Inns

Tuesday May 12, 7pm

The Bridgewater Public Library will host Michael J. Tougias and Alison O'Leary. They will give a power point presentation about their favorite outdoor destinations and country inns located in Vermont, New Hampshire and the Berkshires.

Tougias and O'Leary are the authors of Inns and Adventures of Vermont, New Hampshire and the Berkshires: A History and Explorers Guide.

Adventures include such activities as white-water kayaking, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, hidden swimming spots and the thrill of discovering lesser-known countryside. "We love finding new, hard to find spots and sharing them with people who have an appreciation of the outdoor world," says Tougias. "And for history buffs, we also weave in unusual events from the regions you will be exploring, with several stops for roadside history." Visit: www.michaeltougias.com for more information.

This program is funded by the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library. It will be held in the library's Flora T. Little Meeting Room, on the lower level. Parking is available in back of the library, located at 15 South Street.

The inspiration of life...

"You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That's the only thing you should be trying to control." ~ Elizabeth Gilbert;

The Bridgewater Public Library will feature an exhibition of international labor movement posters from Stephen Lewis' collection

facebook.com/Lewisposters

in the Flora T. Little Gallery.

The exhibition will be on display through May and June.

The posters in this exhibition are from a collection of more than 4,500 of Stephen Lewis, a long-time activist in the labor movement and the former Treasurer of his union. Stephen has exhibited at a number of public libraries in Massachusetts, two of the state Heritage parks and at Boston City Hall. Lewis has presented at the annual conference of the National Council on Public History and on local cable television programs.

According to Lewis, the posters/photos were contributed by friends, collected at conferences, visits to some of the organizations, and from connections made through the internet.

The Flora T. Little Gallery is open to the public during regular library hours: Monday-Wednesday 9a.m.-8p.m.; Thursday 10a.m.-5p.m., Friday-Saturday 10a.m.-2p.m. Parking is available in back of the library.
