Historical Tidbit:

On May 20, 1938, East Bridgewater had it's own airmail flight.  It was a big event.

Many townspeople showed up and children were let out of school early to meet the plane.

Richard Alexander sent himself this letter when he was 15 years old:

"Dear Dick,

It is National Air Mail week and I am sending this letter to myself for a souvenir.  The mail plane is supposed to land tomorrow in Roaches Field and we get out of school at 12:00 to see it.  I hope it doesn't rain."

Roaches Field was where Subway Restaurant is now, and no, it didn't rain.

Healthy EB Coalition

CS garden    The YMCA has been awarded a $15,000 planning grant from the Greater Brockton Health Alliance for sustainable policy, system and environmental changes to impact nutrition and fitness in East Bridgewater!

This planning grant is for the Town of East Bridgewater to begin identifying areas of improvement related to health within the community.  The three goals are to increase access to opportunities that promote physical activity and active living, build community advocacy around nutrition and fitness policies, and increase access to healthy foods within the town.
Several priorities regarding health and wellness have begun to emerge over the first few meetings and we are excited to share them with the community at the next meeting.

However, we also need your help!  Please take the very short survey found at www.surveymonkey.com/r/QLY3KGL  to help ensure representation from as many community members as possible.

 Next meeting:
Thursday, May 21
8:30am-9:30am
Center at Sachem Rock, 355 Plymouth St, East Bridgewater.

This planning process is vital as we work together to make the healthy choice the easy choice in East Bridgewater!  We are looking for maximal community participation as we create a healthier East Bridgewater. Community meetings will be held monthly, and are open to anyone. For more information, please contact Leah Serafin, Coalition Coordinator  LSerafin@oldcolonyymca.org

Sachem Center for Health and Rehabilitation
thank you to our hospitals & communities!

The Sachem Center, located in East Bridgewater, thanked the nearby hospitals and communities by hosting their first ever "Night of Relaxation."

Last Wednesday, April 15, the Sachem catered to a total of 31 invited guests by offering a variety of pampering services including chair massage therapy, reflexology, angel and tarot card readings, and more. They partnered with Brewster Ambulance who donated wine and brought two former New England Patriots players (Russ Hochstein & Joe Andruzzi) to take pictures with the guests.

Our other partners included our sister facility Colony Center (in Abington), Brookhaven Hospice and Care Tenders Home Care.  In addition to the pampering, guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres cooked by the Chefs of both Sachem and Colony Centers, as well as numerous raffle prizes to support the local communities (gift certificates from Mia Regazza's and center-pieces/jewelry donated by Hutcheon's Flower Co. in Abington). The event was such a hit that Sachem & Colony have decided to host another one next Spring!

The inspiration of life...

"You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That's the only thing you should be trying to control." ~ Elizabeth Gilbert;
