Historical Tidbit :

On May 20, 1938, East Bridgewater had it's own airmail flight.  It was a big event.  Many townspeople showed up and children were let out of school early to meet the plane.

Richard Alexander sent himself this letter when he was 15 years old:

"Dear Dick,

It is National Air Mail week and I am sending this letter to myself for a souvenir. The mail plane is supposed to land tomorrow in Roaches Field and we get out of school at 12:00 to see it.  I hope it doesn't rain."   Roaches Field was where Pier 18 Restaurant is now, and no, it didn't rain.

~ Respectfully Submitted, Margaret Alexander

Central School Gardeners

Free Field Trip to Soule Homestead

Thursday, April 23 12:30pm

Many of you remember the Central School Garden, an organic school garden that was dismantled 2 years ago to make way for our new Jr./ Sr. High School.  Although the garden no longer exists, its good work continues.  Bridgewater Savings Bank has generously allowed us to retain a grant in order that East Bridgewater students may continue to learn about organic gardening and continue to have an outdoor learning space.

To these ends:
*

Central School Gardeners Committee made a major contribution to Central School alum and Eagle Scout candidate Kevin Smith to re-create the courtyard at the Middle School.  The work is in progress, and the space will be made available for outdoor learning opportunities upon its completion.
*
Central School Gardeners Committee will provide funding for a field trip on Thursday, April 23rd (vacation week) from 12:30 to 2:00 PM to the Soule Homestead Educational Center, 20 minutes away in Middleboro, MA.  A program entitled "Meet the Animals" will be provided free of charge to Central School students, their parents, and their siblings.  Transportation and chaperoning are to be provided by parents of interested children.  Enrollment is limited, on a first-come, first-served basis.  If your family would like to participate, please contact CSG Committee member Korin Zigler at Mskzigler@aol.com
