State Police Barracks was located on the southern corner of the intersection of River Street and South Main Street.
A shopping center is in the location today.

In the 1930's, this was the Headquarters of Troop D of  the Massachusetts State Police. It was then seventy years old, and consisted of three hundred and twenty-five officers.

Parents ask

"When is the best time to start financial planning for college?"

There are many financial questions involved in planning for your child's education, and the answers are all very individual. Here I can share my knowledge to help parents along.

I have seen parents start before their child is born and some that start within a year of college. College education is a huge investment as private institutions cost over $50,000 per year and increasing at a rate of 4.5% per year and public institutions cost $20,000 per year and rising at the rate of 7.9% per year. You need to make sure you invest wisely both saving for college and the college you choose.

Where can a parent or grandparent put savings for college?

Are College 529 Savings plans the only vehicle available for college savings? No. Are they the best? It depends on your individual circumstances. Each family is different, each child's goals are different, the choices in college are different.

The next question is "How much should I save?" This depends on how old the child is and what type of college or university you think they will be going to. Planning for college is very important, having access to your funds without penalty is equally important. You should know the pros and cons of the different college financing products available to you. Some offer investments that can move with the stock and bond markets, others are more stable investments, they all can offer their own tax advantages.

Everyday, I help parents figure out how  they can you afford college for your children. I help them get into the best financial position possible to attain the highest possible Financial Need Dollars.  I help them maximize what a University or College will gives for their financial aide package.   And do you know the schools that provide the most financial need dollars?

These are some of the topics we cover in my 123 College Workshops, offered free to parents looking for financial answers.

I am a local University Adjunct Professor, a Master's of Science in Finance graduate of Suffolk University's Sawyer School of Management, a local financial adviser and your 123College.com Sr. College Adviser. You have questions and I have the resources to get you the answers.

Please join me.

Our home delivered meals program, also know as "Meals on Wheels", are designed to provide just the right combination of good nutrition and a friendly visitor for people 60+ who may not have enough food, be able to prepare their own food, or understand the proper nutritional requirements as they are advancing in age.

We deliver meals based on need, so whether long or short term, we can help you or a loved one eat properly.  Whether recovering from surgery or an illness, or just not having the mobility to get to the market on a regular basis, Meals on Wheels is there to support seniors in our communities

All meals served meet one-third of a participant's daily nutritional requirements and are designed to be low in sodium, fat, and sugar.  And if the participant's doctor requests a diabetic diet plan, we can usually accommodate that by offering a modified meal.    www.sselder.org
