The West Bridgewater Community Preservation Committee (CPC) created a Plan to guide the allocation of Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds for fiscal years (FY) 2016-2020.
Based on its study of community preservation needs, resources, and possibilities, as well as community input, the CPC has identified two lead priorities for use of CPA funds:
create new active recreation facilities and improve existing facilities, including athletic fields and playgrounds preserve the communities historic resources, particularly town records, burial grounds, and private properties.
The CPC also identified needs in the areas of community housing and open space. To support these priorities and needs, the CPC intends to recommend appropriations of CPA funds based on this Plan. The CPC encourages Town Meeting members, Town boards and commissions, and future applicants seeking CPA funds to use this document to guide requests for the use of CPA funds and decisions on allocation of funds.

Historical Tidbit : Landing of a Bi-Plane in 1911
Aviation came early to West Bridgewater with the forced landing of a bi-plane in 1911. The plane was on its way to Bridgewater when it ran out of gas and was forced to land in a pasture on East Center Street just easterly of where Trucchi's Market is now located.
This fall occasion made a significant impression on the town's residents seeing as the Wright brothers had flown only eight years before. Youngsters were impressed by the plane itself, and additionally so because of their early dismissal from school in order that they might view this strange looking visitor.

Author Janell Burley Hoffman Presents:
How to be A Tech Healthy Family
Thursday, Oct 9 at 7pm
WB MS/HS Auditorium
This is a must see program for every parent whose child has a phone, or wants one!
As Janell Burley Hofmann, mother of five, wrapped her 13-year-old's iPhone on Christmas Eve, she was overwhelmed by questions: "Will my children learn to sit and wonder without Googling? Should I know their password for online accounts? Will they experience the value of personal connection without technology?"
She is the author of: iRules: What Every Tech Healthy Family Needs to Know About Selfies, Sexting, Gaming and Growing Up As funny and readable as it is prescriptive, iRules answers these questions and helps parents figure out when to unplug and how to stay in sync with the changing world of technology while teaching their children self-respect, integrity, and responsibility.

Fire Safety Week Tips
Keep Your Home Fire Safe
Your home should be a safe and comfortable place-and you can help keep it fire-safe by following these prevention tips:
Cook with care
When you cook, never leave cooking food unattended on the stove. Keep anything that can catch on fire, like potholders and towels, away from the cooking area. Avoid wearing clothes with long, loose-fitting sleeves that can catch on fire.
If you smoke, attempt to quit
Don't smoke inside your home. If you do smoke in your home, never smoke in bed or leave burning cigarettes unattended. Also, don't empty burning or hot ashes in a trash can, and keep ashtrays away from upholstered furniture and curtains.
Stay warm-safely
If and when you use a space heater, keep it more than three feet away from anything that can catch on fire, like draperies.
Be alarmed.
Install smoke alarms on every floor of your home, including the basement, and make sure you have smoke alarms near all sleeping rooms. Test all smoke alarms once a month using the test button.
Make and practice an escape plan
Create a home fire escape plan. Know at least two ways out of every room, if possible, and have a meeting place outside. Practice your escape plan twice a year with everyone living in your home.A few minutes of prevention can save your life!

West Bridgewater CULTURAL COUNCIL SEEKS FUNDING PROPOSALS
Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science projects due
October 15, 2014.
The West Bridgewater Cultural Council has set an October 15 postmark deadline or organizations,
schools, and for individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.
According to Council spokesperson Joan McAndrew, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in West Bridgewater ~ including exhibits, festivals, short term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures. The West Bridgewater Cultural Council will also entertain proposals from schools and youth groups through the PASS Program, which provides subsidies for school-age children to attend cultural field trips.
The West Bridgewater Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community. For specific guidelines and complete information on the West Bridgewater Cultural Council, contact Joan McAndrew at [email protected]. Application forms are also available at the West Bridgewater Library and town hall.
Grant Applications can be found at www.massculturalcouncil.org/applications
