We are in full swing now into Q1 2015 and, for many of us, the 'rubber is starting to hit the road' as we push our teams and ourselves toward the goals we have in place for the year.

As a seasoned leader, you already know that it is crucial that you have articulated the vision in a clear and unambiguous way.  You are likely already aware of how vital it is that you conduct yourself in a manner that is as consistent and on point to that vision as you possibly can.   And, you've probably read enough leadership books to understand how you must stay attentive to help your team stay motivated and inspired to connect the organizational vision to their own purpose and passions.

What you may not be paying enough attention to is the immensely influential role the 'first follower' will play in your success this year.

It's that first person to step out of the comfort zone and embrace the leaders' vision. It is the brave soul who demonstrates a selflessness by opening himself or herself up to potential ridicule from the peer group.

That first follower boldly says, in effect, 'I'm in!', regardless of what the pack mentality is.

As a result of that first follower breaking down the barriers to entry, the field is open for others to follow suit. And, then momentum kicks in and change takes place.

If you question the validity and strength of this concept, take a look at this 3-minute video and see what you think:

First Follower: Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy

Once you've viewed it ask yourself these two questions:

1) In what ways do I show my position of influence as  first follower for my leader/manager in support of organizational goals?

2) Who are my first followers that I can count on to influence my organization to achieve the goals we have set for 2015?

This week, if you don't already know the answer to #2:
find, cultivate and nurture your first followers  - their ability to influence your team is a key to your success.
