Hello
"I'm my own worst enemy..."
The above quote could likely be attributed to each of us at some point in our professional or personal lives. It is seductively simple to allow this into our thinking and it can be the single most impactful negative force in limiting our quest for personal success and contentment. So, here's a rather obvious coaching suggestion for you:
Stop being that.
A blunt, and rather dismissive suggestion I know, however I would challenge anyone to come up with any kind of substantive argument for the opposite position - 'Keep being that'.
So, if you agree with me, instead of being your own worst enemy, try this role: Be your own 'best coach'. Instead of spending your energy on feeding into your limitations, become the advocate for all the strengths, talents, and sources of power that you are uniquely and specifically in possession of.
To help you get started in this new role, here are five professional coaching principles that I spend a few moments focusing on prior to every client session I conduct. Imagine how these principles might help you in your approach to this new role with your own client (yourself) next time he/she is facing a challenge and being his/her own worst enemy: 1. See your client as much more than the current situation. Actively look for the greatness within your client - find it, name it, and refer to it often in your sessions.
2. Be gentle with your client. Demonstrate compassion and empathy for the life journey your client is on. Try to understand the ways in which it has brought them to this place that calls for assistance from you, their personal coach.
3. Be fearless in confronting your client's PERSONAL GAILS . Relentlessly insist on facts to support any thought patterns your client expresses which keep the session trapped in the problem versus finding the solution.
4. Trust your intuition. You are capable of seeing and hearing much more than what is being said. Listen for what is not being said.
5. Connect to your Higher Source Center your thoughts and energy to serve your client with the very best you have to offer.
"Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine."
