Hello

People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing. - Dale Carnegie

What do you have planned for today that fits your own personal description of fun?

If the answer is 'nothing' or 'I don't know'.....why is that? What rationale do you have that supports your acceptance of the fact that on this day, you have not taken control of your day and pro-actively planned to have some fun? Why is that OK for you? (Challenge: Check your GAILs)

A couple of weeks ago, I did something slightly self-indulgent involving the purchase of a 'toy' that has 2 leather seats, 5 awesome speeds, and ridiculously messes up my hair every time I use it.

In addition to it being a source of pure fun for me...I've noticed something more: somewhere between 4th and 5th gear the seeds of solutions to my challenging problems start to bubble up into my mind.  It's like the mental clutter is blown to the wind, and I can see things that are more evident when I'm in a 'fun' state of mind.

So, perhaps there's a coaching message here:

As we envelope ourselves in the responsibilities and pressures of our careers and family life, tending to this important activity falls lower and

lower on the priority list.  We get wrapped up in the more noble 'to do' items which appear to have greater immediate results and serve some long-term value.

All animals, except humans, know that the principle business of life is to enjoy it.

- Samuel Butler

Try this:
For the next week, make the very last thing you do (work-related) each evening be a review of your schedule for the next day and identify where the FUN will be had. Highlight it in a special font and begin anticipating it.

If you can't identify anything that will be fun for you, take the initiative to create something fun and put it on your schedule.  Keep the commitment!

It doesn't have to be grand, over-the-top, all consuming things....it can be simple acts:

- Make a call to someone you love just to chat.
- Take your favorite client out for lunch.
- Grab a specialty coffee drink and read a tabloid magazine.

- Start writing that book that's waiting to be written.

Now, here's the guaranteed ROI:

at least one of the following will be the result of your investment in fun that day:

  1. You will get an immediate hit of anabolic, positive energy.
  2. You will remember things about yourself that you like and enjoy.
  3. Your mind will open up and blocked solutions to your problems will appear as if by 'magic'.
And, listen to what the doctor says:

Fun is Good.
- Dr. Seuss
