Hello
There's a strong chance that you can recite the 'Serenity Prayer' from memory, as it is a timeless classic.
While I embrace the core message and strive for its lofty ideals, there are times when I need a more empowering and personal 'kick in the butt' to get me through the internal roadblocks of a challenging situation.
So, at the risk of being chastised for tinkering with a classic, I am going to see if a few word replacements can shift the energetic tone of this classic to a more action oriented and self-empowering one. Breaking it down by line:
from The Serenity Prayer to The Serenity Formula - Knowing the 'formula' gives you the power and the ingredients to solve your own problem and give yourself that sense of serenity.
from God grant me to within me always
- the self-management tools in this formula are within you, not out 'there' somewhere...they have already been granted.
from the to my - these tools are yours, take ownership of them.
from serenity to capacity - This part is the toughest one and there is nothing 'serene' about getting yourself to a place of acceptance of this. It often means tapping into reserves of strengths and faith that you sometimes forget you have. It is about remembering that your capacity is often greater than you think.
from courage to ambition
- courage is a good start, but it is ambition that will drive you to bust through obstacles to achieve results.
from wisdom to acumen - Acumen is that 'gut level' talent for discernment which comes from a combination of wisdom, experience, vision, and instinct.
Now, let's put it together:
The Serenity Formula
Within me always is
My capacity to accept the things I cannot change
My ambition to change the things I can change
and my acumen to know the difference.
Knowing you have these three powerful self-leadership tools at your fingertips is certainly a cause for being thankful. And gratitude is usually the precursor to serenity.
Greetings!
