| Greetings! |
Pack up the sun block and beach towel..... School is officially back in session!
I hope that everyone has had a safe and happy summer! Happy first day of school to everyone starting back today!
We are starting to wrap up this fiscal year and getting ready to start a new one (October 1st). But in the midst of all the hustle and bustle we think it's important to continue to keep the Board updated on our board leadership, activities and success stories.
The summer was full of anniversaries, celebrations and employer engagement activities. This fall we will kick off career awareness with an expo, a new center opening and conclude with a community summit about workforce innovation and opportunities for economic independence.
At this month's Board Meeting, we look forward to hearing from our elected officials. Our Board Members and the audience always enjoy hearing the latest Tarrant County news from them. We will also, share the ways we continue to partner and organize Job Fairs, grant applications and ways to better serve both employers and job seekers throughout Tarrant County.

The Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development was established in 2004 as a partnership of The Arlington Chamber of Commerce, University of Texas at Arlington, Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County and the City of Arlington. Workforce was also honored to have Craig Hulse, Director of Economic Development, North Richland Hills to present an overview of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Plan for our Cluster 5 area, consisting of Tarrant, Denton, Dallas, and Collin counties.

Several cities asked for staff to follow up with them on certain issues and several are interested in the High Demand Skills Job Training Grant, which is a grant through Texas Workforce Commission to foster and collaborate partnerships with local EDC's, using matching funds to conduct Skills training in various Economic Development Areas in and around Fort Worth.

High Impact Lunch
Five North Texas mayors talked about how to fill the skills gap plaguing the DFW workforce at Thursday's High Impact Luncheon at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The luncheon was based on "Skills Gap Report for Dallas-Fort Worth," published by JPMorgan Chase & Co. in May. The report listed 960,000 middle-skill jobs in the area, but few qualified workers to fill those positions. The group emphasized the education system as the primary resource for preparing people for the workforce, starting at the pre-k level. Providing education, training and mentors from early childhood through adulthood would produce better-prepared employees.
Mayor Williams cited the work, Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County is doing on career pathways as part of the response to the skills gap.
The five mayors, left to right, Jeff Williams II (Arlington), Betsy Price (Fort Worth), Beth Van Duyne (Irving), Mike Rawlings (Dallas) and Oscar Trevino (North Richland Hills) sit on stage as the discuss issues at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber's High Impact Luncheon, "Mayor To Mayor", Thursday, July 16, 2015. - photo from Star-Telegram.
Kansas Visit
July 29-31, 2015 Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas and Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas played host to a special group. Our friends from the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas came to learn more about how Texas is mastering WIOA.
President and CEO, Keith Lawing took a group of 10 staff and Workforce Partners on a road trip. It was a whirl win - which took them from Dallas to Tarrant and everywhere in between. The wonderful City of Arlington is where they stayed and they even made time for a ballgame!
It was a great trip for all involved as we shared best practices, solved problems and showed how Texas was not only ready but hit the ground running with WIOA!

Engineer Job Connect Wrap Up
|
The Engineer Job Connect (H1-B) grant project, designed to develop 385 On the Job Training opportunities, which would lead to full time employment for American engineers over a five year period will be ending this November. As of July 13th, the Board has accomplished 105% of its goal by developing 405 OJT opportunities with 37 companies throughout the DFW region. Currently there are 103 engineers still in full time, training positions, which will be completed by November 1st.
The success of this project was due, in part, to our sub-contract with the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber assisted in identifying, and recruiting some of the 37 companies, and with assistance from the Balcom Agency, designed marketing materials to engage the engineer job seekers and the business community.
