I have been honored with the privilege to lead Men's Walk #264 in September, 2016.
As soon as I learned of my selection I began praying for the Pilgrims, the team, and my own discernment and judgment.
Recently, I began thinking what my specific prayers should be, and it seemed best to reflect on my own personal experience on The Walk to Emmaus, recognizing that God will meet each of us where we are, given the opportunity.
What has my own Walk experience as a pilgrim and my 4th days in the years since meant to me and how has this experience affected my Christian journey?
My walk began with the very open minded thought "What am I doing here?' or more likely, "Why did I do this?'
From the very uncomfortable first night of silence with a group of strangers, I found myself becoming a little more open to receiving the message of the weekend, whatever it might be.
The priority talk began the process of opening my heart and mind to the power of the Holy Spirit and to reflect on my own priorities, not my to-do list.
How could I truly realize God's Grace and deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ?
The talks of Christian Action and Discipleship awakened me to the simplicity of responding to God's call - Just Do It - little things, simple things to help others. And do it in Christian community.
My awareness of living in grace was growing.
The message of Changing Our World, The Body of Christ, and Perseverance planted the seeds for how I might truly live in Grace, and recognize the opportunity given to me to be a true disciple.
How could I use my God given talents (spiritual gifts) to make a difference?
Since that time, I have heard God calling me and I have served in roles of servanthood and leadership within my church and in the world.
God has spoken to me in many ways, usually through other people and through events - random people and random circumstance.
My experiences as a Pilgrim and my experiences participating in walks since I was a Pilgrim have enabled me to meet many new friends, to realize the great importance of Christian community, and the rewarding simplicity of service.
We can all make a difference. I thank God for opening my heart, mind, and eyes to how I might make a difference and I thank God for all the people and circumstances through whom He has spoken to me.
My prayer for the Pilgrims and the Team is that they may each feel God's presence and open themselves to His calling for each individual.
