 Fly With Christ

Dallas Chrysalis Update-upcoming mandatory training class and flight dates set!

We have selected dates for the next Dallas Chrysalis flights and flight location. We are in the process of preparing for team selection. In order to determine who is eligible to serve and if you are interested in serving on either inside or outside team, you will need to attend the upcoming mandatory community team training on Friday, July 26, 2013 at University Park United Methodist Church from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

During this training, we will be going over general information about what happens during a Chrysalis flight, as well as going over required training for dealing with youth. We will also be collecting information on team experience so we can determine who is eligible to be on team. This information will aid us in our team selection efforts and determining who the next lay directors are going to be.

We are going to have drinks and refreshments and if there is anything you would like to bring, please do so.

If you have any questions, please contact me at elroygator@gmail.com or 850-528-0928.

Message from the Community Lay Director

Journeys

This past weekend I drove to San Antonio with my daughter and her 3 little girls, ages 7, 4 ½ and 3.  (The ½ in the 4 ½ is very important to my little granddaughter!)  We were meeting my other daughter and her 3 girls, ages 13, 11 and 6 for a mini-vacation at a resort in San Antonio with a huge water park and lot of amenities.  The little girls that were in the car with me were beyond excited.  They could hardly wait to get to San Antonio to see their cousins and spend time with them.  They knew that we would be going swimming but they had never been where we were going so they had no idea what awaited them.  They went by what their mother, their Aunt Leslie and I told them about what was coming.

I suppose that is the way we are in our faith journey - we rely on the word of God as to what awaits us and how we should get through it.  We still often have trouble moving forward in faith and putting our trust in God to see us through the journey.  But God's amazing grace always gets us through whatever is before us.

My precious granddaughters had so much fun being in the water and doing all of the activities laid out for them.  But they also had so much fun spending time with their cousins.  The older girls played with the littles and took them on the slides and lazy river and kiddie park.  They looked up to their older cousins and wanted to be with them every minute.  Just like God wants us to be with him and trust him every minute!

As I begin my year as the Community Lay Director of the Dallas Emmaus Community, I look forward to the opportunity to work with the Board, the Clergy and Lay Leadership, the community and the pilgrims as God calls them to experience His love and grace on the upcoming walks.  I want to express my gratitude to the outgoing Board members - Anna Clemons, Pat Downing, Tim Bubel and Kelly Wade - for all of their hard work and contributions made during their 3 years on the Board.  I also welcome your new Board members - Robin Corser, Laurie Bubel, Mike Pappas and O'Keefe Scallon.  Please pray for them as they begin their new roles.  I want to express special thanks to Chuck Rohre for his leadership of the Community this past year.  He will continue to serve the Board this year as the secretary.

I would like to ask each of you to think of something you can do for the Dallas Emmaus Community.  Would it be serving on an inside team at a future walk?  How about serving on 4th Day?  You could sponsor a pilgrim and give him or her the blessing of spending 72 hours with God.  You could serve as a liason from your local church to work with the Church Connection committee.  (There is information about this opportunity elsewhere in this newsletter.)  What about serving as a musician at Candlelight or on a walk?  You could assist the Chrysalis Community in getting the Chrysalis Flights started up again for the youth in our communities.  You could pray for the Dallas Emmaus Community that we will continue to grow and offer the opportunity to do this thing we call "The Walk to Emmaus."  God has richly blessed us with lots of opportunities and challenges, WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Questions

talent

Remember at the end of the Walk to Emmaus 72 hr retreat....the two questions that you are asked to consider and then respond at closing?

What has this weekend meant to me?

What am I going to do about it?

At the time I went on my walk, the question.... What has this Weekend meant to me? : I answered: great, got to know all about God's grace.....felt God's love every time we sang: Sing Alleluia to the Lord. And what I was going to do about it? Well, I think I didn't really answer this.

What was my plan? Or should I say what is God's plan for me? I attended walk 178 in April of 2004 so for over 9 years I have tried to be a better Christian and a better person. I have sponsored several people to attend walks. I have personally worked on the 4th day team several times. I have been an onsite assistant, and have been on the conference room team. I have tried to share the love of Jesus Christ. I have been involved with several committees at my local church.

What about you? What are you going to do about it? I challenge you to get involved in the Walk to Emmaus Community or become active in your local church. If you are unsure how to get involved in the Dallas Emmaus Community, just check out the DEC website: www.dallasemmaus.org. There are lots of opportunities listed there.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?"
Luke 24 verse 32

Remember your heart was burning with the Love of Jesus Christ during those 72 hours. It can burn again! Get involved in your church! Get involved with the Emmaus Community! Come to a Candlelight or Closing. The next walk is September 12 thru 15.Women's Walk # 248 at Sabine Creek.

Message from DEC's Database Adminstrator

We have a new Dallas Emmaus Community Database

We are very excited to announce a new database for the Dallas Emmaus Community. You can use the link on the Dallas Emmuas website (it is on the top next to the mobile app icon) or try dec.inetmember.com.

From the log in you will use your email address (from the old database) as the user id and "decdec" is the original password. You will be asked to change the password (after the initial login). IMS was built with Internet Explorer, so it works best with IE. Some have had problems with Internet Explorer 10. Some have found they can use Firefox on Apple products.

If you are unable to login, it is possible the old database had an old email address for you. Try any old email you may have had. If you still cannot login, please contact databaseadministrator@dallasemmaus.org, and please give your name and we will get back to you with your login.

Once you are in, click on the "you" tab. IMS uses pulldown menus. Under the subpulldown menu "you" please check your contact information. Please update your contact information, once it is correct click the tab "update information". Under the "you" tab and subtab "connection" is your walk information this is also available under the "experience" subtab. You can see your "DEC" experience only. If you took your walk outside the Dallas Emmaus Community then you may be included with "other" that did not attend their walks in Dallas.

One of the best things the new database will do for us is add reunion groups. If you are in a reunion group, please add this information. We are very excited to have this new tool to help us, help you connect with others and help you with your "Fourth Day".

Still under the "you" tab and subtab "connection" you can add in special skills that you possess, like music and what instrument you play, if applicable. Other special skills include medical skills.

We converted the data from your old database and we were not able to convert sponsorship information, so under the sponsorship tabs you will only see if you sponsored someone in 2013 or later.

You can volunteer for future walks. Under team signups etc.

This is internet based so all updates of the database are in real time.

Please check out this new database, and let us know if you have any problems.

De Colores,

Better With Community A Message from the Church Connection/Clergy Liaison Chair

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ. As I begin to write this article I can't help but think of Alfred, Lord Tennyson and his poem "The Charge of The Light Brigade", half a league, half a league, half a league onward, all in the Valley of Death rode the six hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns"! He said: Into the Valley of Death rode the six hundred....... Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon behind them volleyed and thundered..........This is an awfully strange way to begin a call for help, but that is exactly what I am asking, for help.

I have been honored to be appointed as the Church Connection/Clergy Liaison Chair. One of the committees' tasks is to facilitate involvement from churches within the Dallas Emmaus Community. Our committee and your Dallas Emmaus Board would love to have an Emmaus Family layperson or clergyperson be our connection to their respective church and community. You must remember your weekend as a pilgrim, and probably enjoyed it so much you continued on your road of the Fourth Day, or maybe you have been side tracked? Well here is a great opportunity to stay connected or get reacquainted with your Emmaus family. We need your help to be this important connection!

Over 600 churches make up the Dallas Emmaus Community and the challenge to find a layperson connection from every church in the community is an important and crucial link to your DEC Board. It is a daunting task, to say the least, and you do not really have to charge any cannons, but with your help we can succeed in gathering information for the DEC database, determine ways and mean to provide information and assistance to those in need from our area-associated churches, and most importantly there is the fun factor, just staying connected with your Emmaus family and friends!

If you are interested in being the lay person or clergy person representative/contact from your church's Emmaus Community please contact Mike Pappas at churchconnection@DallasEmmaus.org

or call me on my cell (214) 454-6199.

P. S. We are trying to update and correct the folder of all the church's contact information. If your church is not listed please send information. You can check the information the DEC Board has on file at; http://dallasemmaus.org/documents/churchlist.pdf

Also, when you update your personal information in the IMS Database, you can see the folks from your church. See the previous article in this newsletter for instructions on changing your information.
