Message from the Community Communications Chair
Happy New Year
Wow, hard to believe 2013! Where did 2012 go?? Do you ever feel that way at the beginning of a new year? We all seem to reflect upon the past year and our lives....what we did good and right and maybe what we didn't. I would like to put a challenge out to all.... Let's all try to live 2013 in a way that God would approve!
On our Service Reunion Group card it reminds us the following:
Christ needs you: your heart, your mind, your hands and feet.He needs you committed in faith, so that your life in grace may bear witness to that faith in Christ through:
1. Your Spiritual Life/Prayer
2. Your Study
3. Your Action
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." Acts 2:42 (NSRV)
2013 is here! Let's all make it a grace filled year!
De Colores,
Ruth Dunn

A Message from the Community Lay Director
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service but the same Lord. There are different kinds of workings, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. I Corinthians 12: 4-6
When my children were little, the book I most enjoyed reading to them was the Dr. Seuss book about Marvin K. Mooney. It started, I remember these many years later, with: "The time has come, the time is now. Marvin K. Mooney will you please go now?"
We have been blessed with another year. All the bright spots, all the hurts, all the missed opportunities, all the dreams realized that were 2012 have come and gone. As we, the Dallas Emmaus Community, look forward to this New Year, we must, individually and collectively, seize the day. The time has come, the time is now. There are Walks to be conducted this year, seven are planned. There are gatherings, there are meetings, training and many scheduled events. There is work to be done, for sure.
Most importantly, however, we have the opportunity to live in communion with each other and serve Him by serving others. I have never had the opportunity to deliver the "Changing Our World" talk, but I always enjoy hearing its discussion of change. Before I begin to change the world, our nation, our community, our neighborhood or our family, we must begin with "me." That change can begin by realizing our blessings, loving our neighbors, and living our Fourth Days as He would have us.
This time last year I wrote a column in which I stated that I had long since given up making New Year's resolutions since I do such a poor job of following through with them. What I suggest to myself and to you is living in the Fourth Day perpetually, without the need to start over each calendar year. Granted that is easier said than done but God is with us, our brothers and sisters in Christ are with us and we have the support of each member of the Community for the asking.
I earnestly invite you to join me in prayer, in fellowship and service. Now is the time to choose whether we will be an event-centered community or a community living in the Fourth Day. I pray we all have the resolve to do what is the right thing. That is as close as I will get to a New Years resolution. Remember, look at the back of the cross hanging from your lanyard - "Christ is counting on you."
De Colores,
Chuck Rohre
