Chokhor Duchen:
Celebrating the Buddha's First Teaching
|
Depiction of Shakyamuni Buddha teaching disciples.
|
Chokhor Duchen is on Saturday, August 6. This special day commemorates the anniversary of the day when Shakyamuni Buddha first began teaching the Dharma.
On this day, karmic results are multiplied by one hundred million, as cited by Lama Zopa Rinpoche from the Vinaya text Treasure of Quotations and Logic. It is an excellent day to practice meritorious activities. This date also marks FPMT's International Sangha Day and provides an opportunity for the lay and monastic communities to come together in recognition of our interdependence.

August 6: An Ideal Day to Practice Generosity
Along with FPMT Centers globally, Shantideva Meditation has offered our annual contribution to the Lama Yeshe Sangha Fund, which supports monks and nuns with accommodation, food, medical care, and access to teachings.
On this merit-multiplying occasion, we invite you to make an offering to the fund or to our Center, to create the causes for the Dharma to exist in the West and benefit many beings.
