A Note From Mrs. Brown

October 8, 2012

Dear ECC Families,

A little update on teachers, Mrs. Mahin is now home awaiting the birth of her second child and our wonderful, veteran long-term sub, Jaclyn Vasko, is here for the duration in Room 207. I am so thankful that Ms. Vasko made the transition smoother by attending conferences and getting to know the children.

Our Yoga Program is now SPARK PE. From now until January 2013, your children will have the added bonus of focused PE Instruction each week. If you have any question about SPARK PE, feel free to visit the website at: www.sparkpe.org.

Red Ribbon Week kicks off next week with a full calendar of events related to healthy choices. Join us for our Red Ribbon Pep Rally for grades 2-6 on Tuesday, October 16th from 1:30-2:15. You may even get to hear the O'Keefe Rockers perform!

Finally, on Thursday, October 18th our ECC PTA is providing our 5th and 6th grade students with an assembly called Brave Talk. Dr. Adria O'Donnell, a licensed clinical psychologist, will come to share strategies for our students on choosing friends, bullying prevention and choices that affect us in school. Her talk is incredibly useful and entertaining and I know our students will love it! Stay tuned for a parent follow up meeting as well. More on that coming soon!

Yours in educating and parenting our children,

Carrie Brown

Drop Off Volunteers

We still could use a couple of more parent volunteers to help with the Safety Patrol before and after school. If you are interested in helping, please contact James Patterson in the school office or email him at zkjp@mac.com.

Lunch and the Scrap Cart

Just a reminder that the new "scrap cart" is now being used at lunch times to separate trash from recycle items. We've notice a lot unopened store bought items and homemade uneaten food items being thrown in the trash. We are not allowed to "recycle" food items due to health and sanitation issues. Have a discussion with your students about if they're satisfied with their lunches or if they're throwing uneaten items. This just might save families money on lunches!

ECC Fund Fall Pledge Drive Raises over $52,000 for ECC!

MANY THANKS to the 215 ECC Families who donated over $52,000 to The ECC Fund!  And a special thanks to the ECC PTA who made extraordinary efforts to support our Fall Fund Drive by helping us spread the word to our school community.

It's not too late to DONATE to The ECC Fund!We are still far short of our annual goal of raising $100,000 for ECC's Music, Science and Technology Programs. The plain & simple truth is that our school CANNOT continue to fund our Consultants without your financial support. And without your donations, our school cannot fund thousands of dollars in valuable teacher & classroom grants, educational tools and resources which are only made possible with ECC Fund monies. We need the support of every single family at ECC to make a difference. No donation is too small, every dollar counts! You can increase the impact of your contribution by making an automatic, recurring donation in any denomination.  For just $20 a month over the course of the school year you can make a huge impact on our children's education.

Donation forms are available HERE and in the school office.  You can also donate online through our school website at www.eusd.net by clicking on the "ECC Fund Donations" link or go directly to our online donation page at  https://ecces.ejoinme.org/2012FallPledgeDrive.

SHOW YOUR ECC PRIDE ON YOUR CAR:  Every ECC Family who donates $50 or more to The ECC Fund will receive an awesome El Camino Creek license plate frame.  We expect to receive the frames in early October and will distribute them to each qualifying family ASAP.

If you would like to find out more about the ECC Fund or have questions or comments, please contact ECC Fund Co-Chair Lynda Wennerstrom at ldwenn2000@yahoo.com.
