Asking the Unpopular Questions
Hi Everyone! Fall is upon us and summer seemed like it went by way too quickly. Those of you who follow my blog will know that two posts were published over the past month that have garnered a lot of attention, both on the blog itself as well as around social media. Both addressed the rather gray area of so-called "emotional work" as it pertains to myofascial release and related forms of manual therapy. The questions I have asked are unpopular because they challenge the way myofascial release has been taught and practiced by some. I have been vocal in speaking my beliefs on this topic and both posts go into some detail, both from a legal/scope of practice perspective, as well as a training perspective. Being taught how to do something does not make it legal or ethical for you to utilize under your licensure laws. Emotional work can be exciting and gratifying, but should you be the one doing it? Positive outcomes on your part or the your views that other professions not doing what you consider an adequate job do not justify working beyond the legal scope of your practice act. I've linked both posts below, farther down in this email.

As I have mentioned to many of you, as well as anyone who has taken a class, please use me as a sounding board for your questions and comments, whether via email, our Facebook Group, or our LinkedIn Group. I will personally respond to each and every question. Also, as many people have contacted me to ask about the tools/products that I mention during the class, I have linked all of them at the bottom of this Newsletter. We have just gotten approval from the Board of Certification (BOC) to provide CEU's to Athletic Trainers. This is in addition to CEUs that are already approved through NCBTMB, New York State PTs/PTAs, MTs, and Pennsylvania PTs/PTAs. If you plan on attending an upcoming class, please email for details regarding CEUs for your profession. Check out all of the upcoming seminars at the website.Lastly, please be sure to check out our free instructional videos. All are linked on the left hand side of this newsletter. They are a good way to review things or to pick up some new ideas.
Cheers,
Walt Fritz, PT
