Well it is time to get your hands in the dirt. Remember that we can freeze newly planted plants for the next several weeks. So if you just want to get into the spring spirit without taking a chance planting tender plants you can prepare all of your flower beds.
We recommend Back to Earth Cotton Burr Blend Compost to help loosen up our great clay soil. Apply 1 to 2 inches on the area and work it in 6 to 8 inches deep. Apply Activate and work it in at the same time. This will make your nutrients more available to your new plants. After you are finished working your beds apply Dimension to the top of the soil and this will help prevent weeds from emerging.
For vegetable gardens do all the same except use Treflan instead of Dimension for weed control. Treflan needs to be incorporated into the top 1/4" of soil. Now if you must plant any plants pick cold hardy plants like Pansies, Snapdragons, Dianthus and hardy perennials. These plants can take some cold weather. In your vegetable garden, it is time to plant onions, potatoes, asparagus, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and a few others. It is way too early for tomatoes, peppers, and tender flowers like Impatiens, Petunias, and Marigolds etc.
Be patient spring will be here soon.
Thanks for your continued support.
