Spring Fever!

Here comes March, I know everyone is getting Spring Fever!!  There are some things you can do to get ready. Work your beds over to get them ready for planting.  Clean out all of the dead stuff from last year.  You might think about putting pre-emergent in your beds so you can get rid of the weeds.  Gallery and Dimension are the best two pre-emergents for that.  If you need some help on figuring out the plants you want for this spring, now is a good time to come see me! I can help you plan out the plants you want

Thanks,

Relay for Life from Larry Bedwell

I hope all is well at the greenhouse and with you. I and the kids are getting along very well, and the new job at WT has been good so far. It's that time of year again that I have started back up my team for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. The relay will be on April 19th at West Texas A&M starting at 7 that evening until 7 the next morning. I greatly appreciated all the help and support I received last year and hope that you might be able to help out again this year. If you would like to donate or become a member of my team, all you have to do is go to www.relayforlife.org/canyontx then click participants or team and look for my name or the teams name, Amarillo Church of Christ, and click join or donate. You can also help out by supporting our bake sales out at Panhandle Greenhouses. The first one will be March 9th where we will have all kinds of goodies, including some hair bows for those who do not prefer a food item. Watch the newsletter for the dates for more bake sales as well. Once again I want to thank you in advance for all you do and look forward to seeing you at the bake sales.   Larry

Bee Balm
'Lambada'

This beautiful native to the prairies is a mint  it is sold as a tender perennial and is considered deer resistant.  Butterflies, bees and hummingbirds are attracted to this lavender-pink sweet smelling  Monarda. It is also known as Oswego tea and it makes a lovely herbal drink. Colonists drank it to protest taxes on imported teas.  Planting directions suggest  one to two weeks  before last frost which is usually near the end of April so the first week in April  would be ideal planting time. Reaching 3 feet in height it would make a nice addition near the back of your flowerbeds. It likes sun but will do well with dapple shade, deadhead spent blossoms to prolong blooming time. Be sure and visit the seed racks here at PGH.
